There are plenty of recent cases of race-based violence that Holder can choose from. A sampling:
In Brooklyn a few weeks ago, ten black people surrounded a car, then beat the two white occupants, a husband and wife. They even called them racial names, as in “Get those crackers” and “get that white whore.” All in front of witnesses in the middle of the day.
The Brooklyn DA says he will not file hate crime charges.
In New Haven, a few days before that, 500 black people attending a party called “An All Black Affair,” destroyed property and rioted in a downtown restaurant. Then outside. Then in two more restaurants. Not only are there no hate crime charges, New Haven police did not arrest anyone for anything during these rampages.
Race was the central organizing feature of the party – and the riot.
A few days before that in St. Paul, a car full of black people robbed and assaulted a white woman. They called her a “white bitch” while holding her down so one of the assailants could urinate on her.
Either way, it is a target rich environment for a Justice Department that so far, seems oddly unwilling to follow federal hate crime laws – if that is, the victims are white.
So white people and black people are fundamentally different you say? Interesting.
But really, you have no facts to back up your assertion. You may have facts that there are more reports of hate crimes committed by white people. But maybe… just maybe… white people dont report the “hate crimes” perpetrated upon them.
Happen to know what percentage of the country is white? So they’re under and not over-represented aren’t they? Meanwhile, black people are over-represented in the category. So that in turn would mean, black people are more likely to commit a hate crime than whites.
So those numbers definitely show that AA are over represented in hate crimes… however I will admit this data alone does tell the whole story.
What presincts are reporting and where are they located? I would expect an area with more black people to have more hate crimes towards white people. Vice versa for areas that are predominantly white.
The report mentioned that 1000 more precincts started sending data in 2017. What percentage of all precincts is that?
I don’t think that post that @Pragmatic made turned out the way he thought it would. Who knew that the highly educated would have such trouble with numbers!
There were 8000 hate crimes reported to the FBI in 2017 by agencies using UCR or NIBRS. The data comes from the initial incident report from the agency. It does not reflect hoax reports, cases that are dropped for various reasons, or cases that go to trial and the suspect is found not guilty or acquitted. The agencies do not send follow up reports to the FBI regarding these cases.
And I know this because I ran the UCR unit of a large Florida Sheriff’s Office for 3 years.
