Could have been a space walk. Astronauts have been known to open the doors of modules to get in and out of them while orbiting.
Maybe all three of them suited up, two got out of the command module and entered the lunar lander. Then reversed the procedure when the visit was completed.
Did they go over to the dark side? Do they know what’s there?
Most of our astronauts stayed on the moon for short periods…only hours during the initial visits and a few days in the latter visits. They always had a view of Earth from their position on the moon.
They did photograph the dark side as they orbited the moon. “Earthrise” is a photo taken from the dark side.
I doubt that radio communications are ideal from the dark side.
