The Rabbit Hole

… and that is the thing about karting, if you try to do well it is extremely physically demanding. Added to which you are performing all this hard work, with no power steering and a kart that usually takes some convincing, whilst wearing at least a level-2 race suit (2 layers), gloves, boots and a full-face helmet … and if you are really unlucky the air temperature is 25C or more and the sun is shining.

Happy days…

When you have a lot of weight to lose, it really does fall off easily with a bit of effort. On my run, during and after, I burnt an additional 1000 calories. So for someone twice my weight, doing the same could mean 2000 calories! A kilo of fat contains about 7000 calories. Ok, I am not sure a heffa can push as hard as that, but it is all relative.

I remember in a gym I went to there was what must have been a 30 stoner. He walked on the treadmill on an incline, pushed himself, panted and sweated like mad (it was rather gross) and persisted. I saw him doing the same for months and the weight fell off him. Good on him, though how he got into that mess in the first place, we would never know. He had my respect because he was clearly putting in a lot of effort.

That sounds painful to me. I don’t have a strong neck. At all. :joy: I can imagine all the g forces - ouch! In the documentary about the Strief (Kitzbuhel), the training for the downhill racers included running up a steep hill dragging a heavy weight, log or something, and the coach had a rope tied to one side of the helmet, which he sporadically yanked!

Discounting how some people get so out of shape which as you elude to seems ridiculous, for those that have the tenacity to do something about it and stick with it I can respect and even some times help them along their path.
When I did some contract work a few years ago at a local firm I watched two ladies daily during their lunch period walking briskly for around 2 years and I believe have continued. One was considerably over weight the other wasn’t. Today they both appear of similar body weight which is fantastic to see (edit: to clarify they are both looking in good shape not the reverse ).
This is why I say it seems important to find what fits because once some achievement is made there is always the opportunity step up in intensity. Unfortunately people in general view exercise as something to do for a while to get fit.

As was I. …

Listen you lazy lard arses, you really don’t want to be swapping testosterone for oestrogen. (@DMK I am not talking to you )

When lifting weights you burn lots of calories for hours after stopping. So if someone did so and you saw them lounging around, well, they are still burning fat. Don’t be too quick to condemn.

This is an interesting article:

“These findings show that nitrite synthesis by oral bacteria is hugely important in kick-starting how our bodies react to exercise over the first period of recovery, promoting lower blood pressure and greater muscle oxygenation,” he said. “In effect, it’s like oral bacteria are the ‘key’ to opening up the blood vessels. If they are removed, nitrite can’t be produced and the vessels remain in their current state."

I don’t dispute that. I agree with it… but, why then do weight lifters have quite a high body fat percentage compared to runners or cyclists?

Why do you think so?

Possibly he knows as I do that you don’t really know a damn thing about me. You’re clueless.

I read asaratis’ response and worked it out

Animals are calculators where they weigh in a balance the cost and benefit.

The cost would be the time, energy and possible injury in chasing a prey animal or defending your position as the alpha of the pack.

Same with sports. There are costs and benefits, or demerits (risks and burden to the body) and supposed merits.
I see the demerits are larger.

I don’t know about you but I tend to see women engaged in intensive sports age faster.

How old do you think I am?

To add: it is the stressing out of the body and not giving it time to recover which is the cause of aging. True, if you did intensive sport every day, did not sleep properly and were continuously aching, then that is when the damage is done. It doesn’t have to be intensive sport, it can be work or life. So, it isn’t sport per se, it is stress and not recovering i.e. with proper sleep.

There isn’t benefit in doing exercise if you don’t recover in between. All you get is the stress on top of more stress. The benefits and muscle growth comes afterwards. I can prove this all physiologically if you want me to.

Stress from daily life /work is far more harmful to the body than sport. Sport gives an improvement in many functions which is anti aging. The best you can hope for from recovering from the stress of work is back to the status quo.

Did you know that wild rabbits, in climates like Alaska, have no fat only protein nutrients when eaten? So if that’s all you eat you could die from protein toxicity.
I guess in a way it’s your way of resistance if an alien species :alien: lands on earth and starts eating humans.
Fight back, fight back, fight back! :+1:

Before an alien invasion though…

When we are in the full throes of Socialism, people will be resorting to cannibalism. The slow, fat ones will get eaten first.

I was at a French zoo recently and I wandered to the back of the lion enclosure. There was an iron gate and it was padlocked. The padlock was about the size of ones you would use on your suitcase. I thought, I don’t have to outrun a lion, I only have to outrun other people. And there were an awful lot of fat ones there.

How high did the water rise in #Ocracoke? The Village Craftsmen have updated the marks on their building: #obx #Dorian #ncwx

I’ve said many times that I only know one thing.
But it wasn’t difficult for me to deduce from your posts that if you lost 5 stone you had it to lose in the first place so you were a lard arse. Ergo you probly couldn’t lift a coffin.
I would also posit that anyone who spends as much time on the net as you do probly hasn’t got time to make any friends in real life.

Nearly 50 years riding a motorcycle has given me a neck like…

Well if you look at people like David Coulthard you can see what I mean, although DC is losing his a bit now that he has taken to the armchair.

Actually the G-forces are not too bad. There is no aero on a kart, so it is just whatever you can get out of the tyres. Some of them do stick when they warm up.
