The Rabbit Hole

True to some extent. What is optimal though? You only need 10mg of vitamin C a day to prevent scurvy, but higher doses have proven to be vastly beneficial.

I have also heard (from Dr Eric Berg) that the fruit and veg you have in the US are pretty low in nutrients because your soils are so depleted. So even though you may eat the perfect diet, you will not get the benefit that you should.

Did you know that coconut oil has the highest levels of MCTs in it of all the oils? That is medium chain triglycerides. What that means is they are really easy for the body to digest and are more likely to get transferred into sugars or glycogen to be stored in the liver for quick access, rather than hang around then get directed to the fat cells.

Think we are close to PM announcement time, not that I think it will make a difference to Brexit come October.

11.45. We may need a general election first to clean out all the remainer infestation in the Tory party. Mayā€™s fault for losing seats (deliberately.)

Yeah thatā€™s when Corbyn gets to act out the final scene in the "Brexit " theater production. May has just stuck to her orders. Iā€™m not being a defeatist just sceptical of who is who at the zoo.

GO BORIS!!!

Now the fun starts. Watch the leftiesā€™ meltdowns.

Hey! We are nice in here ā€¦ usually ā€¦ no need for an excuse to join in.

Old folks with dementia, 9 out of 10, have very stiff neck/throat muscles, which constrict arteries (carotid arteries) to the brain. Check it out.

Itā€™s a myth that cholesterol is bad for you, but why do you think stints in the coronary artery save lives?
One major culprit for clogged artery is blood flukes, which doctors donā€™t want you to know.

Itā€™s because of private insurance companies, the doctors medical association, Big Pharma and corrupt politicians we are where we are. Example a friend of mine decided his monthly insurance premiums were too high, he was going to cancel the coverage. He spoke to a state advisor and now heā€™s paying only 10% per month for the same coverage from the same insurance company. ??
Itā€™s like a maze of laws keeping everyone in the dark. Most poor and lower income people pay nothing. The middle class pays the most and the affluent can afford to pay for the extra bells and whistles.
Hospitals, insurance companies and doctors are profiting from the insurance monies churning and they, all thru the bribery scheme of ā€œlobbyingā€ created by parasitical politicians, try to dump it all on the taxpayers.
There is no insurance from anything just a bet that you pay in case something catastrophic happens to you. The insurance companies take your bet. Place your bets.

Good. I hope he gets the deed done.

It didnā€™t used to be. I could pay $60.00 a month for my son and maybe a $1,000.00 co-pay.

However, if you are older the rates increase as well as the co-pay. It is insurance so, of course the risk factor is a part of rates.

He was diagnosed with something very treatable, but bam. The carrier dropped him and he had to go on the ACA plan (Obamacare). Almost $300.00 per month and a 7K deductible with 80/20 up to a certain point after that.

One of my employees has to have a CAT scan and even though we have great insurance, since she already had one, she now has to pay $400.00 which she doesnā€™t have. She was in tears as this might be breast cancer (sheā€™s had it before). I told her not to worry about it, there would be a bonus in her check to cover it.

But still, it is expensive and many people canā€™t get the care they need within their means. People are frustrated over it and want solutions, but putting the government in charge of it (single payer) would be a nightmare.

Agreed. vitamin C is water soluble so you are perfectly fine with high doses. However, there are people who think (not referring to anyone on this thread) high doses of everything is good for you.

IMO, if you have a family history of something it is a good idea to eat or take supplements accordingly. Or, if a blood test shows you low in something, a great idea to take supplements. Or, like some here with a condition to do the same.

Difference is, people in this thread research and are smart about it. However, take someone like my son who hears about juicing so somehow got it into his head that 100% broccoli is a good thing.

So, more of a generalized observation about people who donā€™t do their homework or follow some kind of diet craze without considering what it could do to harm them.

My son has been on a Keto diet for some time now and it really bothers me as he is in great health and only 26 years of age. What the long term effects areā€¦? Who knows.

I havenā€™t heard that but Iā€™d not be surprised. Iā€™ve been trying my hand at my own garden for awhile now. I canā€™t produce anything in great quantities because I donā€™t have the space, but do want to get away from store bought as much as possible when I can.

We are actually offering an insurance plan that covers deductibles and copays. Imagine that. An insurance plan for your insurance plan. :flushed:

I was referring to the cost of your treatments. If I had no insurance and was to pay for them myself, why are they so extortionate compared to say most of Europe?

Your car insurances are pretty hefty too compared to ours. I wonder why that is too - after all your roads are so much wider so fewer prangs I would guessā€¦ or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Whenever we get onto the topic of universal healthcare, the NHS is always presented on not how to do it. What everyone misses is that we have a population problem mostly as well as an obesity problem that was not relevant 30 years ago. The NHS is probably no less efficient /inefficient as it was then, only the demographics are very different. Other countries do it a lot better.

No one worries about healthcare here or face bankruptcy because of medical bills etc, but I think there is good and bad in that. Because of that, there seems rather a lack of personal accountability. Or perhaps the lack of personal accountability is due to something else such as the Idiocracy effect.

Keto does not seem balanced for someone young and in good health. I can understand it for a fat, middle aged splodge trying to lose fat. I have reservations too. Grains have high levels of both soluble and insoluble fibre as well as an abundance of B vitamins. I am not advocating splurging out on cakes and pastries, but something like porridge is very useful in controlling the different types of cholesterol. How anyone can drink juiced raw broccoli is beyond me! :face_vomiting:

Another thought; a vast quantity of rice is consumed in Asia and the Italians eat a lot of pasta. The Japanese have the highest life expectancy with the Italians not doing badly either.

I currently grow my own lettuce. I hate the baby limp stuff in the shops. I have a constant supply which will last all summer. In France, itā€™s mature and sturdy and you buy it as a big wig. That is what I like. They focus on taste, we focus on quick turnaround and profit. Do you have a compost heap? See it steaming on a cold winterā€™s day, not that you would in Florida!

The big insurance/pharma/AMA and hospital coprorations are paying politicians to look the other way and not regulate runaway cost. The bribes are called ā€œcampaign contributionsā€ via lobbyists. The loosers are the taxpayers. Government coruption is the culprit.

A funny hospital story for the Americansā€¦
When living in Florida my wife got a water infection which unfortunately she left for a couple of days and it got quite bad but still " it was a water infection ".
We had just moved near Palm Beach and before moving I had company insurance which had lapsed with my transfer to the states as I was in the process of leaving the company. So no insurance but we needed some antibiotics, no big deal we thought.
The doctor decided some extra tests were needed before treating the water infection and transferred my wife to a hospital room and the tests began. Everyone and his dog got on the band wagon even a gynecologist to check if she was pregnant at a cost of $750. F*cking jokers. She had to stay overnight (on a drip which further exacebated the water infection) and they continued pretending to look for something more serious that wasnā€™t there. Every scan, blood test, mamogram, ultrasound test you could imagine was used and I lost count of the different so called ā€œspecialistsā€ that visited.
After 2 days of testing she was prescribed anti biotics for a water infection.:rofl::rofl:

I thought it was funny until the bills started coming in. The Grand total was a little over $18k.
Of course I told them where they could put their folder of invoices and their threats of court cases. The net result of telling them to go f*ck themselves was a final discounted invoice for $3,300 to settle.

I am sure there are several morals to this story but

Our mother government manages to screw up every program that it controls. The less our government is involved in any activity, the more efficient, less corrupt and more fairly applied the operation will be.

The private sector has incentives that do not exist in government entities. Rather than be conscious of the bottom line and the return on investment of monies spent, the government is spending OTHER PEOPLEā€™S MONEY and does not care how much things costā€¦as long as the managers get their salaries, pensions, vacations and perks for merely showing up and delegating the actual work to an oversized staff of inefficient workers.

IMO, it is impossible to have a system like yours when only a few are actually paying in but are absolutely not getting what they paid for. Because we have the multitudes of citizens who pay nothing as well as the illegals who are bankrupting our systems.
We have the wealthy who can afford the premiums and the co-pays.
The middle class who can barely afford the premiums and the copays break the bank for them.

You have to have more paying into the system than taking. Right now, we have more taking than giving. So, people are going to receive abysmal care at a back breaking rate.

THAT is the fault of the government. So, why trust the government who created the problem to solve the problem.

It really is a mess, Jen.

I could not agree with you more. It breaks my heart to wonder what havoc he is wreaking on his body that will come to fruition years later.

Hey, it is the $11,000.00 per cup, flavor of the day :flushed:

There is a lot to be said for how oneā€™s body needs based on hundreds, thousands of years of adapting. Itā€™s a great point.

We have hurricane like winds and downpours every day right now. 'Tis the season. A casual afternoon storm bends trees in half. High humidity and high temperatures. I have considered a compost heap but am not quite sure of how it would not turn into green slime sludge with all of the nutrients washed away. Gotta love the tropics :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
