I’m not one to promote needless conflict at all. I also do not promote the politicizing of wars by hobbling the field command with ridiculous rules of engagement (such as was done in Vietnam). When in war, the goal should be to win it and get back home.
Promoting effective defense of America’s diplomatic personnel and allies does not conflate to promoting wars of aggression. (This does not mean than an army should not move forward in enemy territory.)
Our embassy in Iraq is considered American soil and should be defended until the Iraqis vote to ask us to leave the country. Then I say we should remove all Americans from Iraq and let them fight their own battles with Iran.
Well…I don’t know if I would bomb them but I agree it’s pretty shitty! Especially considering that the USMC deal got signed and wasn’t used as leverage in order to address this issue with Mexico. Trump tried in rhetoric but ultimately blew wind and it’s still pretty shitty as you are apt to point out.
There is literally no comparison between the tiny consulate in Benghazi, far from the capital and US troop stations, and the largest embassy in the world, once staffed with 12,000 and heavily guarded. Also the Benghazi consulate slash CIA annex was engaged in smuggling arms to rebels fighting Assad in Syria.
Trump supporters keep asking the rhetorical question, “what should Trump have done with our embassy being attacked.” But OF COURSE that ignores the fact that there would have been no attack if Trump would have kept his campaign promise and taken the US military out of the ME ending military operations and bombing strikes like the very one that drew this response to begin with.
No it wasn’t, it was the same old tired USFP we’ve been seeing for decades in the ME, and in some regards…worse. Obama took predator drone strikes to a new level. IMO, they are extrajudicial killings and violate the ethics of war and international law.
In a speech at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida, Obama all but conceded that he was unable to get America out of the foreign wars, large and small, that grew out of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
“We know that in some form this violent extremism will be with us for years to come,” Obama said. “In too many parts of the world, especially in the Middle East, there has been a breakdown of order that’s been building for decades, and it’s unleashed forces that are going to take generations to resolve.” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ But when Trump is handed the bag of shit, he’s the bad guy. Go figure.
Yes, he’s the bad guy because unlike any other president, HE, in his braggadocious way, promised to end the Middle East wars. Just like he braggingly told us all he would pay off the national debt, run balanced budgets, lock her up, be too busy as president to go golfing, etc., etc., etc…
Then he became president and has realized its far more difficult then he ever imagined…
Every political figure makes promises. Where ya been? Trump like any other man, is just a man. Ya do your best, and hope to gain ground. Sometimes you do, sometimes you don’t. No president jumped down people’s throats like TR. He put us on the map as a world power.
But NONE have ever secured a solid base of support as naive as his on promises so completely unattainable…
He’s a laughing stock. And now, worse than anything, he’s saber rattling by threatening to escalate hostilities even further with 52 strikes on Iran.
Only some of Trump’s supporters on this board have been willing to call him out on this, the rest are continuing cover for his bullshit that is NOT a show or game. Lives are at stake.
NOT allowing backward turds to bully Americans stationed in the ME and when these turds act like animals let open seasons begin !!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH . We all know YOU gave up your lunch money everyday to those big bad bullies .
A wholly unnecessary objective that has cost us trillions and trillions and trillions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of lives ever sense in its maintenance. Completely antithetical to the framers vision and absolutely gratuitous and to the benefit of the few. But patriotism is a good pill/poison pill that has been swallowed by many a people throughout modern human history. Why would Americans be any different.
