SAT exam to give students "adversity score" in bid to level playing field

@supperhey That was just one black out of how many?

And it’s not just Whites, Blacks and Hispanics…also Asian-Americans, too

Teachers are aware of the statistics and demographics of college graduates. Nothing notable here.

Companies are not far behind in lowering their standards.

I wouldn’t say they are behind at all. They have been forced through lawsuits and regulation to lower their standards for both hiring and promotions due to Affirmative action requirements and fear of discrimination lawsuits.

The incident I was talking about went all the way back to the 90’s just after the ADA was passed. If I didn’t hire the guy he threatened to sue me under he ADA which would have cost me tens of thousands to either defend against or to settle his claim out of court.

I had a great attorney who just advised me to hire him and document that he was unable to perform the duties required of his position and that no “reasonable accommodation” for his limitations could be made. I was able to get rid of him then in sixty days for far less than it would have cost me not hiring him in the work place.

The bad thing is that I only had one position available at the time and 7 guys who applied for it, six of which could have performed the work and deserved the job.

In the end I was out about 6,000.00 and a loss of probably around 200-250 man hours because he was so limited in what he could do it just made more work for everyone else and cost us time on the job.

Crap like that is why I got out of the business, that and the staggering cost of workman’s comp.

One of my trucks got run off the road at an exit by an elderly couple who decided to turn at the last minute.

Our truck only went over some bumps and everything was fine.

Except for the employee in the truck who suffered “pain”.

Long story short, they guy had a freaking tumor in his femur. But, Workman’s Comp could not “discern” the amount of pain he was “suffering” due to being run off the road so they paid.

He had several MRI’s and specialists who made sure their medical reports kept roping in Workman’s comp to foot the bill.

I ALMOST lost my business over that because my loss ratio went sky high and I had to scramble to find someone to insure me. Over 40 years in business with negligible incidents , gone in a flash.

Things that keep you awake at night, right?

I don’t doubt it a bit. At the time most of our work was in New Mexico and at that time rates were going up more than 20% a year due to an absolute explosion of fraudulent claims and under NM law which was at the time very favorable to workers there was literally nothing that could be done short of spending thousands to fight every claim as fraud which was certainly not a viable option for either the insurer which at the time was the state, or for us, the employers.

This was only 3 years ago. And, you are correct. The attorney representing my Workman’s Comp carrier flat out told me I could contest it but they had the final say and I’d be wasting my time.

Nevermind that the guy had a TUMOR that I didn’t cause. Hell, put me out of business and everyone who works in the company that relies on employment because people can’t see a bigger picture at play anymore. Ugggh.

Nice sources <3. The point was if a poor black person wants to go to college, there are a plethora of financials aid and affirmative means (as pointed out in this thread / articles) to help them there. A poor white person wants to go to college? Forget about it, tough luck.

Going to college doesnt automatically equate to a successful life and career. Hell, the act of going to college alone doesnt entitle one to attain a college degree. If you put a person not in regard of their merits and scholastic aptitude to a rigorous academic program and what do you expect? Would you put an average Joe in the NFL for a season in the name of equality and expect him to come out an able player at the end of the season? It cheapens toe NFL, and introduces Joe to grave injuries.

What can possibly be the injury to an inept student in a rigorous school? Life-crippling student loan, most often time not for that STEM degree they started with in their freshman year.

I wasnt talking about the news coverage, but the economic help + universal acceptance just on the basis of her being black. I see this same story of race exploitation on the college game every year, year in year out. Here’s another:

Ouch. That had to hurt. Must have increased your rates dramatically and they probably didn’t return to a normal level for years.

He had several MRI’s and specialists who made sure their medical reports kept roping in Workman’s comp to foot the bill. The ambulance chasers certainly make life difficult for business.

I believe it. It got so bad in NM that all of the WC carriers left the state and the state ended up having to become the sole carrier for the entire state. Not sure what it’s like today but I doubt it’s gotten much if any better.

The person who accepted that student should be fired.

One of the biggest problems college graduates have is that they got a degree in something because it felt good in spite of the fact such a degree was in minimal or no demand among future potential employers.

Another is the simple fact that a college degree today is so common it offers less advantages in the work place than having a HS degree did thirty or forty years ago.

We spent decades with academia and democrats demeaning and degrading blue collar workers and those that instead of getting college degrees chose to get a technical education and develop skills.

We then at the same time killed off most of our heavy industry and manufacturing base where those skills were in high demand and our middle class has been shrinking and suffering from wage stagnation and deflation ever since.

Real incomes only started to grow again for the first time since the nineties in 2017. They didn’t even get back to pre recession levels until 2016.

Amazingly the increase and record low UE are tied directly to the return of hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs that began in 2017 as a result of Trumps pro growth policies and particularly his policies aimed directly and returning manufacturing jobs to the US.

This is exactly what conservatives have been saying for over two decades would occur if we created conditions favorable to manufacturing in the US.

Trump however is given no credit for it.

Wholeheartedly agree. Like I’ve stated many times here, the college is the new high school diploma, and it is trending to the same fate the HS diploma faced. With the increasing cost and decreasing economic return and academic rigor through both affirmative actions and leftist pandering / indoctrination, the college degree worth less and less. The final nail in the coffin would be to make it “free”, just like the high school diploma, and turn institution into the opposite of what a higher learning institution that cultivates critical thinking and intellectual diversity would be, and instead indoctrination camps like most public schools are.

When I graduated in 81 a college degree of any kind opened almost unlimited opportunity. When I finished my masters in 92 a BS or BA was of little value in the job market unless it was in a specific high demand field like CIS, CAD, or Nursing.

Today even a four year engineering degree isn’t worth much other than to get your foot in the door as an intern or in a low paying related job but not for an engineering position. Today you won’t get anywhere in the field until you pass your post graduate Engineer Certification.

What we seriously need today is a rebirth of technical training and manufacturing jobs. College is not for everyone and does little to prepare one for life once you enter the job market unless you are planning on post graduate or professional degrees beyond the BA/BS.

All seduction is valuable but a degree doesn’t necessarily make you marketable as a potential employee. For most positions employers would much prefer relevant work experience over a degree of any kind.

This is why we need to establish a white only college that does not participate in standardized testing and diversity quotas.

I’ve lived it. African American girl in our neighborhood, same age as my oldest daughter, same sort of white affluent parents, she was adopted as a baby, worse grades than my daughter, accepted by schools with scholarships that wouldn’t even give my daughter an interview.

That’s a form of racism and schools should lose federal funding for perpetuating it.

Nope. I had to go with ADP for payroll processing to get A+ rated insurance for a year because no one would insure me independently. So, considering how expensive that is, you are correct.

It is still following me to this day, but this too shall pass

We very much need that. The things that go on in new construction with gas plumbers, electricians, framers, etc. is enough to never make me want to build a new house.
