Wuhan coronavirus: Trump White House may impose travel ban on China
As the death toll from the novel coronavirus 2019-nCoV outbreak escalates, the White House is discussing a possible China travel ban, reports NBC News and other organizations on Tuesday morning.
The restrictions could affect inbound and outbound flights, and airports across the United States.
No final decision has been made, but a senior staff meeting was held at the White House on Monday during which China travel restrictions were discussed.

A press conference is scheduled for later Tuesday at the Department of Health and Human Services.
The new coronavirus has killed 106 people and infected more than 4,500, according to Chinese health authorities. It was first diagnosed late last month.
Since the virus has a relatively long incubation period and can be transmitted prior to symptoms becoming apparent, a mass evacuation to other countries does not make good sense.
It has the possibility of expediting the spread of the virus.

With an impending public health crisis on his hands, President Trump should move quickly to shut down air travel and seal up the borders as tightly as he can. No doubt, Democrats will make this a race issue. I don’t think Trump should take the bait. He should proceed regardless of any injunctions by activist judges that may follow. If they want to impeach him over protecting the country then let them do it. He will only gain more support from the people in the process.

I find it disturbing that this needs even be mentioned but there’s an almost unlimited number of options between global nuclear war and doing nothing.
Jut the fallout alone from our nuking of China, without any other nukes being exchanged, would wreak hell on the US within days as it would be carried here by The Pacific Jet stream.

Can’t blame folks for getting concerned but those are two very different viruses.
There are now 110+ cases being monitored across 26 states in the US; it has now infected some 90K Chinese and has been found in China, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, France, Germany, Israel, Australia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Canada, and the US.
Somebody call Trump.

I’m pretty sure he’s aware of it.
Like the leaders of most of the world’s countries, particularly in the developed world the decision seems to be it doesn’t yet warrant that kind of economic disruption. More importantly we’re still trying to get our people out of China.
DOS has organized charter flights out of Wuhan tomorrow I believe to that end.
So far we only have five confirmed cases in the US.
Personally I think they are making a huge mistake and should have started taking quarantine precautions a week or ten days ago.
Business and vacation/tourist travel should have been cut off at least temporarily and any US citizens/legal residents returning should only be returned vial special charters and quarantined for at least two weeks upon their return.
This political correctness BS that has wormed it’s way into our public health system since Aids first became epidemic needs to end.

The biggest issue here is that it appears it can be passed person to person, person to surface, and through inhalation just like the flu but unlike most diseases it appears it can be passed during the latency stage before the carrier even becomes symptomatic. That is very rare.

Surprisingly, we found that this population of ACE2-expressing AT2 also highly expressed many other genes that positively regulating viral reproduction and transmission. A comparison between eight individual samples demonstrated that the Asian male one has an extremely large number of ACE2-expressing cells in the lung.
