I think we’ll probably have at least one small research station set up within a decade and occupied.
We will be doing good to have one on the Moon by that time.
The Sun is NOT a huge hydrogen bomb going off.
No, it’s the biggest nuclear reactor we can even imagine.
I think we’ll be there, hopefully I’m still around to see it.
I think NASA is going to aim for the moon while Musk and others aim for Mars.
We’re going to have to have a moon base if there’s going to be any serious work done on Mars just to reduce the cost of getting there.

Whoever built the village first, be it the Celts or somebody else, how did they know about the structures and geography of Mars long before the Viking took photos?
People in 1970 were betting that we would have permanent outposts on the Moon and would have had men walking on Mars by 2000. I’m old enough to remember these things … it tempers my expectations.
