China is going to be the new Hegemony, only of course if certain things align for them. Right now they have some massive domestic issues that they have to deal with first, which is going to be quite expensive (the massive and multiple natural disasters that they had to deal with in the past year has not seen recovery efforts go as expected). For the most part I agree with you, however let them spend on their military, they will be spread quite thin if they ever get into a conflict with multiple countries at once. Secondly the domestic front is what they need to worry about most with 1.3 billion people to please any discontent or social unrest at home will ultimately be their undoing, at least for the communist party in China.

We could never compete with a Country with such a low hourly wage , child labor , and government assistance . Right. China’s SCS interest is its gas and oil and fishing resources which they absolutely intend to exploit and have fortifications there now to ensure that. It is NOT to block the shipping lanes as so many here and elsewhere claim without any evidence. China’s livelihood is dependent on those shipping lanes being open.
However, China is also determined to bring Taiwan back under their complete control, SO, they know that the US will be butting into that, of course and they intend to be in position to thwart that. The US still remains the only country in the world able to pick its army up and deploy it anywhere in the world, we remain the sole superpower, with a navy and an annual military budget that dwarfs everyone else’s including China’s.
China’s needs and interests are regional hegemony and they are preparing themselves to defend those interests against the US and any of our ally’s that may wish to interrupt those plans.
This information has been readily available in the Pentagon’s annual report to congress that both congress and most Americans (including everyone at PB) never read or take serious……
