Ummm … just a question but if you were at this specific board first … not discounting a board run by our host prior to it … then why does Samm have a founding member feather and you do not?
I honestly came in recently and this point in light of claims isn’t making much sense .
Samm’s profile is hidden so I cannot say when he first appeared relative to you. You do appear two weeks (why am I thinking of The Money Pit just now?) before another who displays said feather so I guess you might have deactivated it.
Yet the difference in time between you and I seems to be not even a month … judging by our respective profiles.
If that’s accurate I’m thinking your claims for oldtimerness in THIS iteration are a bit exaggerated. I don’t know what happened to prior incarnations but it seems everyone is “new” here.
EDIT: I just realized that wasn’t a response to me. My bad for flexing.
I’m not really sure what you’re getting at. I was a founding member of Freebird, a founding member of Politiforum, a founding member of Political Debate Forums, a founding member of the first Political Bullpen, a founding member of Poitical Buddies, and I was a regular member of the Political Bullpen BBS that @Patriot created in the 90s.
I’m sure he will correct me on any of the sites that I may have missed along the way.
My brother recently found the original sticker that Patriot had sent out via a snail mail. I asked him to send it to me.
Patriot made those after the site almost got shut down for someone sending around altered photos of Monica Lewinsky. It was all dot matrix looking and shit but it was still hysterical.
That was the first time I think I had ever seen what we would know as a website get shut down.
I thought I was going to get into a lot of trouble over that at the time. I look back and laugh now but I was really stressing out then.
It’s funny you should mention that because that was the defining moment for me that the first amendment was so important and that free speech online must be protected. I don’t even remember who made that picture, but I almost went down defending their right to make it and share it (at least I thought I did).
Dang I hadn’t thought about that in a minute. I know exactly who made that picture. This guy named Rock from Louisiana. We stayed in touch on an F-150 forum. He died of pancreatic cancer about 10 years ago. Left behind a bunch of young kids.
I can’t prove that he made it but he always said he did.
Crazy the things we stress over that we laugh later over.
I just had a conversation with my son about that today. He was stressing over “future what if’s” about a business venture we are forming.
I said, “We will take it one day at a time”. “We will drop a small pebble and see what the repercussions will be as a result.” “We will learn to tackle the obstacles as they come.” But what what we will not do is to project our fears of tomorrow on what we can accomplish today".
Golly, Gee Willikers, Batman! This thread is better than As The World Turns, Marcus Welby, M.D., My Three Sons, Twilight Zone and Dragnet all put together!
I’m gonna need a lot of popcorn to make it through the night!
His username was Chubb. He was always sending his latest creations in MS Paint to everyone (whether they wanted them or not). So him being the mastermind behind that doesn’t surprise me. That’s really unfortunate news about how he passed. I’m sorry to hear that he left behind young children, although I’m sure they aren’t so young anymore (God willing).
Since we’re now in story time mode, I don’t know if you remember but that was the first time I had to move everyone from one place to another. We were all basically novices with the BBS/internet and I wasn’t sure how to actually move the site. I had taken down everyone’s mailing address when they would sign up for an account. I had a friend who was way into making stickers for skateboards. I had him make that Monica Lewinsky picture into a sticker with the new BBS address on it and I sent it to everyone. I don’t know how it happened but it ended up tripling our user base. Because of that experience I still think guerilla marketing is the best marketing.
I remember thinking about how serious things were when the original BBS got shut down but then how easy it was to stand up a new BBS and move everyone over like nothing had even happened. It was a great feeling.
That’s great advice to give your son. Starting and running your own business takes nerves of steel. If you’re worried about every little thing then nothing will ever get done. I hope everything works out for the two of you and you make it much money as you can!
