Illegals working in landscaping, roofing, handyman services, some construction will work for cash. Proof, I has a roof put on a few years ago. When the crew showed up, all hispanic with 1 person that could speak english. At the end of the day the person in charge would pay the workers in cash.
Watched the same thing with 2 landscaping companies.
I now ask who will be doing the work and if they are US citizens. I request proof before the job starts.
And people will hire them because they not only do the work for cheaper than domestic workers, they also wonât sue the company (or the homeowner) when one of them falls off the roof and gets injured, or file a workerâs compensation claim for fear of being deported. Same reason an illegal who pumps gas or flips burgers wonât call out sick or an illegal working as a cashier at Walmart wonât complain about being forced to work off the clock. Who needs labor laws when you can just hire a bunch of illegals who will never sue their employers?
I always do that as well as ask for proof of workmans comp/general liability and auto.
I had a landscape company do work for me and they guy thought I was nuts to ask for it. But, he coughed it up.
Nothing worse than someone getting hurt on your property that isnât insured.
