We withdrew because the electorate no longer supported the war and Nixon ran on the promise of getting us out.
Even with continued US air support the ARVN’s couldn’t hold their own country and we weren’t going to redeploy ground troops to pull their asses out of the fire again.
‘the electorate no longer supported the war’ because everyone could see it was spiralling downwards into catastrophe. That’s not a lie, it’s the plain truth; the only ones who couldn’t see the writing on the wall was the Pentagon.
Can you post even ONE respected source who thinks US won the Vietnam war.
Coz I tried and the overwhelming consensus agrees that America LOST BIG TIME in Nam- Yep you got your ass kicked by a bunch of peasants and it seems that you are the only one who disagrees - go figure!
It is a lie. We won every military engagement of the war.
The problem was that LBJ tried to play general and was afraid to cross the borders into Laos and Cambodia to eliminate the supply depots and supply lines.
The war was dragging on endlessly with no apparent strategy for victor and withdrawal.
The draft became a major point of contention and students started demonstrating and rioting around the country.
The press turned traitorous as well and Walter Cronkite’s lie that we had lost the Tet offensive declaring “The war is lost” pretty well was the beginning of the end.
You’re too ignorant and uniformed to even know the Viet Cong had been destroyed completely as a fighting force during Tet so don’t begin to lecture me on the subject.
Of course I will. He’s the jackass that got us in there and then played general instead of letting the professionals do what they do best. Worse, he let the other politicians dictate terms as well limiting the ROE so that a final victory was impossible.
