I believe it’s known as creeping gradualism. There are those who will never assimilate; but we continue to ignore the obvious. Our Ellis Island immigrants left the misery & ignorance behind. Today’s immigrants bring it with them.
I don’t think it as much as bringing the misery but more about there being more enablers to the equation.
Or make it all legal. Legal or illegal won’t stop those who want to take the stuff. Let them have as much as they want. I’ve listened to coppers who have been undercover for months/years infiltrating gangs and they no sooner get them banged up, then another squad spring up to fill the gap in the market. There is the cost associated with this too, court trials, expert witnesses, prison etc etc etc.
There are also the victims of the users who mug young kids and old ladies etc to get enough money for their next fix. It would drastically reduce that portion of crime.
It could all be shut down overnight but that does away with a lot of extra cash helping to prop up the economy and probably very naive to think it’s mostly some street scumbag who is benefiting cash wise. It’s a serious business and plenty of the untouchables involved.

In fact it reminds me of a Frederick Forsythe book where, much to the surprise of the US authorities who hired him for the job, the ‘good guy’ is at the point of smashing out of existence a south American cartel but he’s stopped from doing it by senators and other beneficiaries in the highest echelons of a variety of US administrations. This is why greed is going to destroy the human race.
