The Truth About The 2nd Amendment

Progressivism in reality is regressive.

Socialism makes you essentially a ward of the state.

We fought for centuries for the basic rights of self determination, self defense, and the keeping and bearing arms in our own and the collective defense.

They want to return us to a state little better than that of serfs, subjects, and slaves to an all powerful state.

Firearms are the only life insurance policy that can actually save your life.

Youā€™ll likely only need it once if you donā€™t have it when that moment arrives.

Whereā€™s the well regulated militia???

The purpose of the second amendment is that it recognizes and protects a preexisting right, the biggest misconception is when people think the second amendment gives citizens rights to bear armsā€¦ IT DOES NOT, our bill of rights are restrictions against the government to prohibit us from bearing arms with obvious restrictions

To bear arms for security and self-defense is an inalienable right and that is what makes our country unique as no other country has it and before you say well Europe is such a fantastic gun free society ā€¦ stop because itā€™s not

How many European countries in its history have been taken over by madmen, dictators, Nazi scum etc?

How many times has America been invaded by opposing forces?

READ IT. You made the statement that the states arenā€™t bound by federal laws such as the 2nd Amendmentā€¦ Yes they are.

That I can agree with. . . but the 14th guarantees that the states may not infringe on those rights either.

That wasnt what I was implying , it just didnt come out right
we know they are bounded by federal law but my point was they can add their own restriction or gun control as the left says

The states can add things to prevent certain people from obtaining arms, like undesirables, felons, children or Prohibited persons, not sure if that makes sense. now.

Fair enough, I thought you were arguing that the states were free to infringe on the 2nd. I should have known better.

May states and municipalities now refuse to enforce gun laws and not work with the ATF?

No, but Rules pushed by the gun lobby (NRA) and its allies in Congress have left the agency unable to enforce the law.

I would agree, rules agreed to by the NRA have ā€œinfringedā€ on our Second Amendment rights.

Well, thatā€™s not quite what I saidā€¦

What preexisting right? The framers of the constitution wrote in the 2nd Amendment so that Americans would have the right to keep and bear arms. Well of course when you have guns you can defend yourself against bad people, but that was not the aim of the 2nd Amendment, it was to secure a free state. This is not hard to understand, but for some reason it seems to be very hard to understand.

oh my youā€™ve never read Locke, or what the founding fathers read, they got it
we have unalienable rights , one of them is the right to protect ourselves you know self defense , American colonies before it became a country recognized these pre existing rights, this is what makes us unique compared to europe, asia etc.

The Second Amendment does not grant or establish a right to bear arms. It recognizes and protects a pre-existing right (as does the entire Bill of Rights).

It has nothing to do with govā€™t regulation, it simply means working well or as designed.

ā€œA well regulated clock keeps proper timeā€.

Several times, none successfully.

That isnā€™t true either. Weā€™re protected by the BOR from the states as well as long as the federal courts do their jobs and enforce them.

Like what for example?

No they didnā€™t. What they wrote was that the government could not infringe on that right. The difference may sound subtle, but it is really a huge difference. The Founders believed that the people already had the right to be armed and because they also believed that an armed populace was critical to the security of the state, they penning the 2nd, to prohibit the government from ever taking that right from the people. Their intent was clearly to limit the power of the government. They firmly believed (and have been proven to be correct) that inevitably, the government would evolve and seek to grow in power over the people. That is why all of the Amendments in the Bill of Rights were written. To protect those specific rights of the people from the inevitable abuse of power by the government.
