Ok yes I agree there is plenty of that goes on but often whistle blowers and the like are starved out, put out in the cold with little earning potential so telling the story and making a few quid seems to be the MO generally. It’s then up to the individual to have their BS detector calibrated. Even when we think our own is fully calibrated others will think it isn’t and that’s the way of the world.

I had my head down doing an involving job which I loved, I started looking around when the clowns lost the battle with Soros (iirc UK interest rates went up 2% in the morning, another 3% in the afternoon, and closed the day back where they started but with the UK out of the ERM). Actually it was before then, it was when Nigel Lawson meddled with the house buying process in '88~'89 and caused the recession of 92 and the accompanying 6 years of misery that ensued.
So the point is, politicians have a dismissive view of the public. Their skill is to be able to bullshit in a believable way in the furtherance of their short term goals. This really came home to me when I saw the military winding-up in 2002~03 before the propaganda machine started to roll in justification of the invasion of Iraq.
