OMG
That’s science!
Sure beats the global warming science.

It is not about listening to anyone else. Of course you are going to hear conflicting opinions and yes, some of them will stink with conflicts of interests. You need to make your mind up for yourself by knowing the science and doing your own analysis.

An example:

Do you eat grass fed beef? Why? One of the arguments I keep hearing is its higher omega 3 content. Well, my first thought was that beef is not really a food you would eat to get omega 3.

For the record, our general beef here is mostly grass fed, but they do go into the sheds over winter and get fed grains. The problem with our beef is that we slaughter them way too young, hence they lack the flavour and tenderness. French beef is much better as is American beef. We do have pure grass fed beef too, but the quality isn’t any better.

Say your steak is 200g. A lean cut would be about 5% fat. That is 10g. Of that, 4% would be polyunsaturated i.e. either omega 3 or 6. That would be 0.4g.

The ratio of omega 6 to 3 in grass fed beef is 1.5:1. The ratio in pure grain fed beef is 5:1.

So in your 200g grass fed steak, you have 0.24g of omega 3. In your 200g of grain fed steak, you have 0.07g of omega 3. Hardly worth bothering about. How about having a portion of salmon instead and get 10g of omega 3?

Now that is one reason why I advocate more fish and less meat. A high ratio of omega 3 in the body is the best indicator of lowest CVD risk.

There may be other sales pitches for grass fed, but perhaps not all it is cracked up to be. As with everything else, do the analysis yourself.

More conflict

I found this on a facebook page, a study stating carbs not animal fats linked to heart disease.
It appears to be another correlation study !

Hope the link works:

F*ck me we can’t eat food groups with high Lectin content now either.

At least we are left with water until some bright spark advises us that will kill us prematurely

That’s right. The cause for heart disease and diabetes type 2 is the same. Saturated fat causes nothing. The study may be correlation, but the science exists.

That is why beans make you fart!

There is all this focus on diet, but what is missed is exercise. That is equally important, in particular, exhaustive exercise!

Our body is full of germs, inside and outside, not to mention the digestive tract. But they don’t seem to kill us and I always wondered about that.

I’m nervous about the bacteria in the oral cavity. If I had paid more attention to them decades ago, I would have kept many of my teeth.

If we have a little of tooth decay, we go to the dentist who will automatically drill and make it worse!

But supposedly the enamel will repair itself. In other words the tooth is a live organism, and it’s wrong to treat it like something hard and dead.

How so?..

You can’t go wrong with vitamin D3. :sun_with_face: I take kelp suppliment which is basically iodine which will protect you from radiation poisoning and also take spiroulina which has all vitamins and minerals.

Excellent excuse, I mean reason to pour whiskey on your ice, Unfortunately I gave up drinking about 4 years ago but whiskey and drambuie used to be my chosen tipple.
If I am ever abroad in a dodgy country I will have a good reason to start driinking again :+1:

If you take D3 be sure to take K2 as well. D3 aids absorption of calcium and K2 gets it away from the soft tissues and arteries, where calcium deposits can clog up, and sends it to the bones. In fact, if you have any conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, D3 and K2 as a combination would work wonders.

If you have high blood pressure, you would get prescribed calcium channel blockers. That is because you have calcium deposits stiffening your arteries. Take K2 instead!

Peanuts are an excellent source of vitamins and minerals. These include biotin, copper, niacin, folate, manganese, vitamin E, thiamine, phosphorus, and magnesium. They contain resveratrol, an anti aging compound most abundantly found in red grape skins.

100g of peanuts contain 49.2g fat, of which 15.56g are polyunsaturated and all of that being omega 6 with zero omega 3. The synthesis of omega 6 produces prostaglandins which are inflammatory. A high ratio of omega 6 correlates with higher incidences of chronic diseases.

You decide.

I know this is late, but indulge me this once:
Jack Bruce joined Mountain for a short while, and did an album “West, Bruce and Laing”
Then he did a couple of albums with Robin Trower, then he got back with Leslie West and did this gem.

Bruce was a great singer as well as bass player. He wrote most of Cream’s songs. Clapton had to moderate a truce between Baker and Bruce to keep Cream together. Baker once pummeled Bruce onstage in a previous band (Graham Bond, I think)
