I didn’t know what offal was, so I had to look up. Obviously, it’s not a specific organ.
Lame Deer talks about native Sioux eating raw intestines of the animals they freshly killed which contain a lot of green vegetable material. LOL
Some Japanese like to eat certain organs (liver, etc) of the blow fish which are poisonous. You have to have a state license to prepare the blow fish. The whole idea is to make it a little poisonous because some people enjoy the tingling sensation in the mouth, like ■■■■■■
Sure enough, there are deaths each year, making the fish the most dangerous food in the world.
Either you have a lousy cook who made it too poisonous or somebody without a license prepared the fish.
The liver is basically the trash can of the body. One of the functions of the liver is to detox the body by filtering out toxins, and discharge them slowly as the bile. I myself would never touch the liver. In Germany, you have Luberwurst, which is liver paste you spread on bread. It has a unique taste and is not bad, but given the toxins in the food chain as well as in animal feeds (growth hormones) this day and age, I wouldn’t touch it.
Eat saturated fat. Eating fat will not make you fat. Fat has no insulin response. It is refined carbs that will spike insulin the most and will not trigger a satiety hormone (that is why McDonalds’ fries have little or no potato in them, because potato is a complex carb recognised by the body and will trigger a satiety response.) What is in the dermal layer of your skin? It is saturated fat. Eat fatty cuts of meat. Eat fatty fish. Don’t worry about cholesterol. Your body makes shed loads of it anyway. You need it in every cell. If you eat more, it will make less, if you eat less of it, it will make more. Cholesterol causing heart attacks is a complete myth.
Keep insulin down. Insulin is activated every time you eat. Don’t eat frequently. The presence of insulin means that none of the fat burning hormones are activated. Insulin tells the body to store fat. So I can make you fat just by giving you insulin. Growth hormone is triggered by 2000% during fasting. It is triggered by 700% during high intensity exercise. It naturally declines with age.
Do high intensity exercise. Not only is growth hormone triggered, glucagon is too and testosterone in men. Glucagon is the feedback loop of insulin, telling the cells to release fat.
Good sleep, ideally 7-8 hours and keep cortisol levels (stress) down. If you sleep for 5 or 6, you will age faster. Growth hormone is triggered during sleep, especially after high intensity exercise.
Calorie restriction. Mice which were fed 30% less lived 30% longer. I don’t think it is the same ratio for humans, but there certainly is a correlation. This would be easier done by intermittent fasting than eating less each meal. Plus you get all the other benefits.
Keep up muscle mass, which naturally decreases as we age. Fat produces oestrogen, but with muscle there is higher testosterone levels (in men.)
Intermittent fasting. This gives the liver a rest (the ultimate detox), stops insulin and increases growth hormone, as well as all the other ones too. It also promotes autophagy, which is a protein clean up operation and will help sort diseases of excess growth such as cancers and Alzheimer’s. Autophagy starts after 16-20 hours of fasting. Along with autophagy there is mitophagy which is the cleanup operation within the cells especially the disposing of old and worn mitochondria (which are the battery packs of the cell). This is triggered by AMPK, which is effectively a reverse fuel gauge for the cell. When energy is low and demand is high, AMPK triggers the growth of new mitochondria. Healthy mitochondria are a good indication of biological age. Why do children run around and can’t keep still? Healthy mitochondria. As we age, the signal between the cell nucleus and the mitochondria becomes less robust. The signal takes the form of a protein called NAD (Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) and that decreases with age.
I follow David Sinclair, a Harvard professor, who has spent the last 25 years or so researching how to beat aging. He is a biochemist, not a doctor, so I take what he says and combine it with a holistic view. A couple of years ago, when he was 48, he had tests done and was found to have a biological age of 58. He went on a self prescribed program of NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide), resveratrol and metformin (diabetes drug which makes the glucose receptors more sensitive). He now has a biological age tested of 31.
NMN triggers production of NAD which is the messenger between the cell nucleus and mitochondria. Resveratrol is found in red grape skins mostly. It is a double edged sword. It does an awful lot of good, but the deal killer for me is it also triggers oestrogen. Metformin triggers AMPK, but it doesn’t do anything about insulin or mTor, another nutrient sensor, nor does it trigger mitophagy. There is also the rather bothersome side effect of diarrhoea.
So thanks but no thanks. We can do better. You can get all that for free, drug free plus much more with intermittent fasting. On normal eating days, never snack and try to have a decent stint of no eating, say 16 hours. Don’t eat processed foods, refined sugar and go easy on the refined carbs. Cook with fat that is solid at room temperature. I use beef dripping a lot and sometimes coconut oil. Eat fat. It is not so much calories that make you fat. It is insulin. The law of conservation of energy does not work with the body. That is another story.
All of that was checked in the hospital and came out fine. Interesting though how these things play a role and show symptoms as benign sounding as swollen ankles? Anyone reading this might be experiencing this or know someone who is and will now get it checked instead of dismissing it.
Great articles.
So, we’re at the watch and wait stage to see if the bone marrow can produce hemoglobin from the transfusion.
Interesting stuff when you keep learning how the body works, isn’t it?
So many times, people are told, “We can’t find anything. Come back in 6 months.” By the time a diagnosis can be made, often it is too late. Cirrhosis of the liver is a prime example. There just are no symptoms until the disease is well advanced. That is why I bleat on so much about health and prevention. There are many manifestations of disease, but few causes.
When I was 10 ish I used to take apart mechanical wind up watches that didn’t work just to see what was inside and occassionally believe I would be able to fix them.
After watching this today I only now realize why I never succeeded
Ask Montechristo. He’s a diehard democrat.
But most run of the mill Democrats can’t read.
They only take verbal marching orders from CNN and CNN doesn’t like Tulsi Gabbard.
Run-of-the-mill Democrats have been kissing Hillary Clinton’s ass ever since she and Slick Willy started fucking the people of Arkansas with a corrupt government.
It’s always been about personal gain and a Machiavellian modus operandi. The Clintons have long been into drug smuggling, murder, sex with minors,…you name it. If it’s sleazy, they’re into it.
Fuck the Clintons and ALL of their offspring!
…including this deluded fucking idiot, Chelsea Clinton.
“Hey, Chelsea! Take your kids and get the hell out of the country!”
