Yeah, another bitch about getting old - muscle pulls take forever to heal.
Ok, if you said non injury, I would have suggested it could be an autoimmune issue, hence the question on allergies. That is not the case as it is just an injury that has not properly healed. As well as the strengthening exercises, vitamin C and zinc are good for healing tendons. Be careful on the vitamin C - I would not touch supplements. They are most likely to be ascorbic acid which is only part of the vitamin C complex and you can make it by mixing corn starch with sulphuric acid. Ascorbic acid actually has the opposite effect of what you think you are doing. It will suck the real vitamin C from your body. Take enough of it and you will get scurvy - truth!
Allergies are autoimmune problems. Your immune system is reacting to stuff it shouldnât be. There is one thing in common with allergy sufferers (and other autoimmune conditions) and that is a defect in the gene MTHFR (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase) which is responsible for producing an enzyme of the same name. MTHFR is needed for conversion of proteins into amino acids as well as converting folic acid (vitamin B9) into folate which can be used by the body. Folic acid is found in dark leafy greens especially, but if you have a defect in the gene, you may have problems with the conversion and still be deficient in folate no matter how much greens you eat. You can get tested for MTHFR, but if you have allergies it is most likely you do have the defect. That is why allergies run in families. So you could just take a supplement of methyl folate and you should see some change within 3 months.
Edit: take B12 and B6 as well as methyl folate.
Re. the aging: I can help on that as well.
Just watched it. Wow, wow, wow! Kipchoge did it in 1:59:40.
What are good supplements for aging? I know cyanide can stop it.
Because I know my diet has some holes in it, I take a super multivitamin, super b-complex and vitamin e daily. E because I noticed that it seems to make my hair grow like crazy, much better than falling out.
Dark leafy greens is probably a big hole in my diet, it youâre talking about spinach and kale. Vitamin C probably isnât, I love citrus fruits and have oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits and kumquats growing in my backyard. I tried zinc once - I felt bad and nauseous almost immediately, I doubt that Iâm deficient in zinc.
Zinc made me nauseous but I tried a different brand.
Kroeger Herb from Colorado. No problem.
I met Hanna Kroeger myself and I can trust her products.
She is not with us anymore but her children are running the business.
Zinc is a must.
Hanna Kroeger also taught that people with worms and parasites should not take any supplement at all, because it only feeds the invaders. Deworm first.
If your bucket has a hole or two, whatâs more important?
Adding more water or fix the holes?
Iâm not sure what youâre recommending, but if itâs eating spinach the bucket is fine the way it is.
My experience with the Japanese is that they are in denial.
They claim they are clean because they take bath everyday, keep their houses clean, etc., etc.
But physical cleanliness has nothing to do with parasitic infection. Itâs the diet (like raw fish) and the air your breathe, because parasite eggs can be airborne which you breathe in a crowded train.
Nowadays, people from hot and humid countries (with questionable hygiene) live among us, often running restaurants and many travel there too.
No supplements. Itâs understanding aging on a cellular level. It will be long. Iâll get to it when I have a bit more time.
I just ordered this after reading up on the benefits of Turmeric. I am excited to see how well it works!
However, I also just read that it inhibits the absorption of iron in our digestive tract?
Ha⌠I was just speaking with someone the other day about how every person is different. If you are a meat eater, that is great as long as it isnât processed, etc. You know your body and your needs better than anyone else.
I just had a look. 500mg curcumin standardised at 95% curcuminoids is an excellent dose. Good to see Boswelia in there. You might want to look at French grape seed extract as well. I like what this guy says - he talks about French grape seed extract too on his site.
Just looked again at the ingredients, I see silicon oxide in the capsule. I avoid that, you can get cellulose capsules. Probably not a big deal though.
Unless you have very heavy periods, you wonât need to worry about anaemia. Most people have too much, men especially. It is healthier to have thinner blood (lower HB levels). Other than getting blood tests, you could simply keep an eye on your resting heart rate. Higher resting HR (for you, not published range) could mean less iron in your blood. If that happens, then get it checked out.
Iâll see how it works then order cellulose capsules if I can find them.
Just read up on grape seed which sounds interesting as well. My friend was just diagnosed with anemia and we donât know the cause yet. He was a 5.3 and was admitted to critical care in the hospital (youâre supposed to be in the 15 range).
I wanted to see if the Turmeric might be okay for him to use (his ankles are swelling for some reason now) but if it blocks iron absorption, obviously he wonât be able to take it.
As an aside, I used to avidly read âmedicine hunterâ. Terryâ site reminds me of that
Ha, when I had my first my hb level dropped to 4.5 (I lost 1.5 litres of blood). 3 doctors stood at the end of my bed telling me I had to have a transfusion. I was high on morphine and said, nah, Iâm fine.
I donât think curcumin would help swollen ankles. It sounds like water retention. It sounds like liver problems, ankles being far away from the liver. Is he diabetic? Overweight?
Looks like grape seed extract is a no go for him as well
The researchers, led by Han, studied the effects of eating grape seed extract and epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) found in green tea. They used cells from the intestine â where iron absorption takes place â to assess the polyphenolsâ effect and found that polyphenols bind to iron in the intestinal cells, forming a non-transportable complex. This iron-polyphenol complex cannot enter the blood stream. Instead, it is excreted in the feces when cells are sloughed off and replaced.
Iron is necessary to carry oxygen from the lungs throughout the body and for other cellular functions. People already at risk for iron deficiency increase that risk if they consume high amounts of grape seed extract or EGCG.
Han and her colleagues looked at the heme form of iron found in meats, poultry, and fish. Last year, they performed similar research with non-heme iron found in plants. They published the results of their study on grape seed extract and EGCG in the Journal of Nutrition , showing that eating polyphenols decreased iron absorption.
Both grape seed extract and EGCG are sold in extract form. The results of these studies suggest that consumers should be cautious if using these products.
No, none of those. He did have two units of blood in the hospital though.
I made fresh calf liver, onions with bacon the other night. Oh my goodness, that was amazing. So, Iâm trying to get his diet high in iron along with cutting out the items that inhibit absorption.
Well, at least Iâll try the Turmeric⌠Iâm always happy to go the natural way.
Weâll have to start calling you âDocâ
Itâs funny, I have loads of food dislikes, but I love offal, liver, kidney, the more blood the better. The only hurdle is if itâs like chewing rubber.
I donât think Iâve ever tried offal. Iâm not opposed to it, lol just not sure who in my neck of the woods even sells it.
For liver, the key is to soak it milk an hour or two to get some of the bitterness out of it.
I wouldnât generally eat offal. Any diseases the animal may have had will be concentrated in the organs.
Cancer tumor with truffles, mmmmâŚ
