The Rabbit Hole

Then, they win.

You should be able to contribute without being harrassed.

Who cares what winds them up? If you can’t see it you don’t know and therefore don’t care.

I didn’t have them on ignore because I like to see the flow of the conversation. Not seeing what they say is fair enough, but then others reply to them and the whole thing just looks confusing.

They both have my email. Toss can’t /won’t email me because that would give his stupid game away. As for Dr Manshe, there have been some strange things, which I have no problem ignoring.

There are a lot of posts that are off topic that I skim past until I find one that interests me enough to engage in.

However, if these people are going to get personal, that will have nothing to do with the topic, will it?

Therein the problem lies. Not every post they make is an attack. They get responded to by others and I don’t know what the heck is being talked about. Not a big deal anyway, I’ll stay away for a while.

I can see that but I can also see not staying away and standing your ground.

You have as much right to post in the main forum as anyone else. No one has a right to harass or bully you.

Hate to break it to you D

He daid!!

I’m trying to tell you…the best thing to do is to MUTE them…individually…by username. All that does is preclude your getting any notifications generated by their actions.

If they reply to a thread you are WATCHING, you will not get a notification of it.

If they mention you as @Jen in a thread, you will not get a notification of it.

If they reply to you in a thread, you will not get a notification of it.

If they send you a DM, you will not get a notification of it. (I’m thinking you don’t even get the DM.)

HOWEVER, if you happen to be reading in a thread that they have posted in, you will see their replies…and can still reply to them if you wish. They can also reply to you, BUT YOU WILL NOT BE NOTIFIED that they did.

Go to Notifications/Users in your Preferences…add their names to the list under MUTED

Under your list, you will see

“Suppress all notifications from these users.”

Thanks @DMK and @asaratis. There seems to be some disparity of rules here. Ross got banned for his personal attacks. Now I see he is no longer banned from Freebird, so I conclude that means the mods are happy for him to be here also, despite conclusive evidence of his identity. Verv was banned for hindering “the free speech of others.” How many times does that happen here and the mods aren’t bothered? I don’t know what Physicshunter was banned for, but I can’t see that he upset anyone, except maybe he answered back to a mod, like Verv did. We’re all equal but some are more equal than others, eh?

I usually just open up PB and browse; I don’t bother logging in unless I want to say something, so I see it all anyway. It doesn’t matter, I get email notifications of everything going on in here and I won’t bother with the main threads anymore. I have a lot going on at the moment, just packing for a final holiday before back to school in September. I want the kids back at school! I want some peace.

Edit: Or… what I did occasionally back at FF: hit and run. Plant something incendiary then mute the thread and not go back.

As asaratis wrote, maybe it is not counted, and as a ‘mod’ you have your hands full here.

Read some stuff, do a few ‘likes’, that will probably suffice.

Post where you want, do not answer the trolls, avoid using answer-backs of the type “my thumb is bigger than your dick”. Develop a superior command of language without appearing superior. Do not feed the trolls.

I’ve been reading through the boards and other all internet haunts that I used to spend time in. Most of you would note my lack of presence, and I think that I can break it down as follows:

  1. FF

“Fo Fac” was ultimately a broker advisory service, there is and was no intent to assist traders, the purpose of the site is to promote the opening and closing of any trade. Just pull the trigger, we don’t care how you do. There were a few skilled traders, but they were in the minority.

  1. Twitter

Where to start, apart from the fact-based services such as Electricity, Water and traffic information, twitter is beset by the stupid and downright evil. Truly a festival of Trolls.

  1. Facebook

Facebook is the most dangerous social media supplier currently on the planet. Openly weaponised and politically moderated FB has died as a safe place for sharing cat video’s or wishing your friends a happy birthday, Merry Christmas or Happy New Year. It is just full of fake news and video adverts now all the while holding the user’s interest with “controlled” targeted advertising. No free speech in this environment.

  1. Free Bird / Political Bull Pen

Although the intention is clear, the execution is just not as hoped. What I was expecting was a lively debate, what you get instead though is very similar to twitter in that the trolls just descend and you find that keeping a thread coherent requires ignoring 80% of the contributors. I do think that there is merit in a breathalyser and drug test before allowing keyboard action, it’s unfortunate that that feature is not mandatory.

Anyway, for those members of the intelligencia who are present and continue to make positive contributions around the Net, you’re braver than me.

As I have recently demonstrated, I’m not very brave either. Right here in the RH is a troll free zone. Hope you stick around.

On occasion when people post bovine fecal matter I cannot resist the opportunity to call them out. Not that they respond.

Move is underway and I look forward to getting out of Colorado.

My brother is in Colorado. Been there since 2012. He moved there partly because he is a snowboard nut, but hardly does any these days. I ski more than him, how ironic is that? He’s a semi pro cyclist and as far as I know is doing pretty well for a team in Denver.

I’ve lived most of my adult life in Colorado. Use to b a great place to live. We now have a state that is beyond it’s infrastructure capabilities. Massive traffic jams exist in every direction. 6AM-10AM traffic jams, 3PM-7PM massive traffic jams.
I gave up skiing years ago when they went to demand pricing on the slopses. More people on the hill, the price of a lift ticket goes up.

Moving up the road to Wyoming where live is a bit easier.

Remember that discussion a while back about nuclear bombs? It seems that the device used at Bikini Atol accidentally yielded 3 times as much bang as was expected. The resultant 15-megaton detonation accidentally killed the occupants of a Japanese fishing vessel.

More interesting is that the kill-zone was overlaid on Washington DC, just to see how much damage would occur. I will let you read that part. However it appears that the whole of the UK could be covered with 2 such bombs; one above somewhere like Oxford and the other above Glasgow/Edinburgh. There may be survivors in Penzance…

I have a dear friend that lives with her soulmate near Grand Junction. She says they are immune to ramifications of the influx of asylum seekers from California and plan to stay where they are until the government gets taken over.

My brother tells me of the traffic getting up to the ski areas and says it’s not worth it, so doesn’t bother. He’s in Boulder. Has that changed in recent years? Is it heading the way of other lib shitholes? It’s such a shame that it was the snow and mountains that took him there. Not sure him and his wife can afford to return to the UK now. That is the problem so many ex pats face. Never sell up. Always have a UK base.

Boulder has been a liberal Mecca for some time…
