MPs have voted against a proposal to delay Brexit in order to prevent the UK leaving without a deal.

There has been a lot of big developments today, but that one is essential for the rest to fall into place. Removing the threat of a no-deal is essential to giving the PM any negotiating power.

The Conservatives are coming round the Malthouse plan - which actually looks decent. Plan A is modified backstop, if EU rejects that, Plan B is a negotiated no deal.

Should the Malthouse plan get MPs backing, the ball is back in the EUs court (Irish really) since there is now a Westminster consensus. We could be finally near the end of this mess.

Sorry verv, but not sure what this is ?

Coopers amendment attempt to extend article 50, and Corbyn tried to rule out a no deal.

If those amendments had of passed, May would have had zero negotiating power.

This seems to be the same thing. She now has no bargaining power with the EU

What!!???

When the fuck did that pass?

Edit - it’s not a binding vote. That was lucky

From the BBC:

Another amendment, rejecting a no-deal Brexit, also won the support of Parliament, but the vote was not binding - meaning the date for exit remains 29 March.

Verv, there is a Brexit thread on the outside. You do know we are expected to contribute to the main forum too?

I think he is probably as much on the offensive as he can be. He is accumulating a small band of trusted advisors and he is acquiring a small group of congress people he can rely on and trust, however, he is still pulling the wagon by himself. The MSM is brutal and the mueller BS is the biggest political hit job ever perpetrated on a major political figure. The FBI, CIA and entire justice dept are completely corrupt and I don’t see a plan to correct any of it. Several people I respect say the new AG is honest and will “do the right thing”. I believe he is another swamp creature same as the Trump appointed head of the FBI. It is very frustrating.

Speaking of the proverbial Rabbit Hole, this is one of the best presentations of reality I have ever seen, and he says fuck about a dozen times.

I see the golden ratio!

The US and British navies have joined forces for the first time in the South China Sea, risking Beijing’s fury.

Totally freaking awesome! My brother sent me this link this morning!

Thanks verv, appreciated

What are we doing winding up the Chinese? We wouldn’t like it if they were lurking around our waters, “testing” stuff.

IT’s the Chinese who are claiming international waters and lurking around in the national waters of other nations in the South China sea

Ok. Did those other nations ask for our help?

The Philippines has sought international arbitration instead. In 2013, it announced it would take China to an arbitration tribunal under the auspices of the UN Convention on the Laws of the Sea, to challenge its claims.

In July 2016, the tribunal backed the Philippines’ case, saying China had violated the Philippines’ sovereign rights.

China had boycotted the proceedings, and called the ruling “ill-founded”. It says it will not be bound by it
