You are quite correct: The Democrats, too, are uncivil–and evidently, proud of it.
They deserve to be criticized–and strongly.
But two wrongs still do not equal one right.
Sometime they do. Sometime you have to give back harder than you get. Your opponent needs to be put in their place; exposed. Unless, of course, you want to remain a victim to the lies, bullying and slander.
What Trump is doing is not wrong, so your proverb does not apply.
