I feel the need to go back to address this point: one of the huge problems with “high speed rail” vs regular speed rail is that it increases the costs of each train, the cost to build tracks, the wear on the tracks, and in the end results in fewer passenger cars.
Which is to say with fewer cars the commute may take less time BUT the departures and arrivals schedule is LESS CONVENIENT.
More slower trains translate into more departure and arrival times. With more departure and arrival times the trains can be smaller to support the same expected passenger load. With smaller individual trains you can have more trains for the same investment in infrastructure, making it easier to get a surplus of capacity.
More convenience means more people will ride. High speed rail sets you up for the opposite spiral, where personal cars may be slower but they’re more convenient.
The problem with building high speed rails here in America is , they have build more tracks and most tracks in America have curves , you need a virtually a straight line from Point A to point B
and where are you going to get the land for the straight track? eminent domain
once you leave the urban centers and you build stations in smaller towns, most cannot get to it without a car, In europe, the UK , Japan, they don’t have that problem because you have a transit system that can get people to the train station with ease
Like many if not most things the Left advances I’m wondering which cousin or in-law of the politician is going to get the contract.
