Sri Lanka: Islamic State Claims Responsibility for Easter Attacks
What Happened: The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for a series of Easter bombings targeting hotels and churches in Sri Lanka that killed at least 321 people and injured over 500 more, the BBC reported April 23. Sri Lanka’s prime minister, meanwhile, has warned that additional militants — some armed with explosives — remain active.
Why It Matters: The claims are the latest evidence linking the Islamic State to the attacks. Moreover, Sri Lanka faces the risk of additional attacks as authorities have yet to apprehend the operational planners and bombmakers responsible for the attack.
Background: Although Sri Lankan officials have said the attacks were a response to last month’s shootings at mosques in Christchurch, preparations for the attacks in Sri Lanka likely preceded the New Zealand assault.

If it was the IS then likely the churns were targeted before the Christchurch atrocity. Church targeting are the IS MO and the IS claim of responsibility didn’t make that point.

As far as the background goes? We all (well those that don’t just grab headlines) know the attacks are not a response to anything. This is what radical Islamists do. They need no reason, no impetus to martyr themselves.
I truly hate to have to say it, but these folks really should be confined to their own countries.
Latest I’ve heard is that ISIS is now claiming responsibility. Things have been between a simmer and slow boil in Sri Lanka for a long time and I suspect this is likely just a small dose of what’s to come.

There is no punishment I can conceive of for them for what they’ve done. If ever there were a reason for hell to exist, they and their ilk are the reason.
And the “globalists” welcome them with wide eyed, rose colored glasses, open arms.
When will enough be enough? When will the kumbaya idiots be relegated to a back seat and told to shut up and sit down?
It will take another 9-11 scale or larger attack in the US to swing the pendulum back the other way or something of a similar scale to what happened in Sri Lanka happening here with small cell, coordinated attacks all across the country all at once or over a short sustained period of time.
Europe is beginning to wake up to the problem but they have collectively very short memories too.
Remember, 9-11 only galvanized the US for about a year or so even as bad as it was. By 2004 Bush only barely managed to win reelection after having handled it about as well as it could be handled just three years earlier and the democrats began the blame game and attempts to undermine his presidency in less than 18 months.

Probably because it goes against the very founding of our nation and the natural desire for people to want to leave where they are to make a better life elsewhere just like our ancestors did.
The problem is the clash between Islam and Western Civilization.
The other two major religions of the Western World, Christianity and Judaism have both reformed quite a bit to allow for peaceful coexistence where Islam is still largely stuck in the 12th century.
Remember Obama’s politicizing terrorist attacks by saying the Islamist terrorists had legitimate grievances… that they just needed jobs?
Unfortunately, people die when such lies were told. The bombers in Sri Lanka were not poor and uneducated. Obama lied.
“This group of suicide bombers, most of them are well-educated and come from middle or upper-middle class, so they are financially quite independent and their families are quite stable financially, that is a worrying factor in this,” he added. “Some of them have I think studied in various other countries, they hold degrees, LLMs [law degrees], they’re quite well-educated people.”
Yah, we knew that was bullshit from the start.
As we were discussing back in 2017 the new war with the Islamic State is going to be a global terror war as is emerging in this case.
Tens of thousands of Jihadis who abandoned the fight in Syria have returned to their home countries and if anything they are for the most part even more radicalized than when they left to fight in Syria and Iraq.
Unfortunately this is just the beginning. Europe particularly is primed for a real meltdown over the next few years.
Imagine attacks like we saw in Paris breaking out all over the major cities of Europe in well timed and coordinated attacks.
This is why the Trump administration is fighting like hell to keep known American ISIS Jihadis and brides from legally returning to the US and those that must be allowed back in then being prosecuted wherever possible.

For what @TWR said. Also, there are a lot of Muslims who disagree with the violence and the radicals. So for them, confining them to their countries seems wrong. Rather like ban the guns argument.
Why are they not speaking out and standing up against this barbarism?
With the radical side of the religion speaking out too forcefully or too loudly may be very dangerous.
