CLEVELAND (AP) — Myles Garrett swung a helmet. The NFL will soon swing back.
The Browns star could be facing an unprecedented league suspension for his violent outburst Thursday night, when he ripped off Pittsburgh quarterback Mason Rudolph’s helmet and clubbed him on the head during the final seconds of Cleveland’s 21-7 win.
Garrett’s startling actions on national TV will come with a price. It’s possible the league could come down hard on the former No. 1 overall pick, who made strides in cleaning up his game after picking up personal fouls earlier this season.
Following the game, Garrett was contrite, but the damage was already done.
“What I did was foolish, and I shouldn’t have allowed myself to slip like that,” Garrett said softly. “It’s out of character.”
It’s now out of his hands, and it’s possible the league could end Garrett’s season by docking him the final six games.
In 2006, Tennessee’s Albert Haynesworth was suspended five games after he stomped on Dallas Cowboys center Andre Gurode’s head. Haynesworth’s punishment is the longest for on-field behavior in league history.
The NFL could act swiftly to punish Garrett, whose actions brought reaction from players across the league.
Let’s not mention that the NFL is holding private workouts for the racist cuck Krapernick giving him preferred status by trying to force him on a team! The NFL is a joke!
Or, as an alternative, allow only these black thugs to play footsbaw, but change the rules, arm them with clubs, and just let them have at it. That would probably get better ratings, anyway.
“Garrett had already been fined more than $50,000 this season, for punching Tennessee Titans tight end Delanie Walker and for a pair of late hits on New York Jets quarterback Trevor Siemian, the second of which knocked Siemian out for the season with an ankle injury.”
Garrett should face criminal charges for assault with a deadly weapon too!
Something has got to happen here, because you should have seen the tweets of NFL players watching the game. To a man, none of them have ever seen anything like it. So is it a trend? Is it an indication of where the league is going? I don’t know. That’s why I would really like to know what sparked this. “Well, Rush, it was a series of things that happened during the course of the game and it all just kind of blew up with one final stroke of the pen or whatever.”
No, no. There’s got to be something more than just the simple progression of perceived injustices during the game. There’s much more to this than that. You go back to the old adage of coaching: You either coach it or you let it happen. And the Browns, one of their big problems has been a total lack of discipline on the field, and they have been allowed to get away with it. There has to be something here that caused this — and they’d better find out.
If we’re never told what it is, they better find out what it was, because I don’t think it’s… My guess is it’s not something just specific to this game. I hope that’s all it is. I hope I’m wrong about that. But I wouldn’t have a problem with a lifetime ban. They have got to make sure this is not the beginning of any kind of trend. This has to be shut down, and there can be no doubt about the intolerance. They’ve already got a problem in this game with perceptions on the part of fans about what’s going on out there on the field.
So they’ve got to get a handle on this and quickly.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: By the way, Mason Rudolph is going to be fine as well. Number 2, the quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers because, and I kept asking, what is it that precipitated this? Apparently, I saw just a brief flash of a couple of seconds of this. Myles Garrett sacks Mason Rudolph and it was like the twenty-first sack of the game.
Rudolph spent the game being sacked. He was trying to rip Myles Garrett’s helmet off when they were scuffling there on the ground. I think that’s what started it. I think that’s what set Garrett off. So Mason Rudolph is at least going to get a fine. I don’t know about a suspension, but those are the rumblings coming out of the league.
Thete is no question that Garrett’s actions were COMPLETELY wrong no matter what Rudolph said to him. His suspension should include all next season as well
On ESPN’S First Take no one disagreed about his suspension and said it should run into next season as well and this includes the GREAT Stephen A Smith .
These RACIST comments aren’t necessary as 90% of the black players refrain from this type of behavior.
There is no doubt that Kapernick has been blacklisted from the NFL because of his PEACEFUL protest. He has First Amendment rights like anyone else whether you agree with him or not. What is the BITCHING about him playing in the NFL. Has everyone forgotten that the Eagles gave Michael Vick a chance to play after serving 18 months in FEDERAL PRISON.
Those that make these RACIST comments should take off the robe and hood and allow air to the brain.
I don’t give a FUK about the criticism I’m going to receive. How does that grab your ASS!!!,
