Should President Trump Close the Southern Border?

Thanks for the articles. What you explained contradicts your previous claim of 95%-99% effective deterrent with a wall.

How do you know how much reduction there would be without first knowing the starting number? Are fences as effective as concrete walls at the border? Can anyone point to a map and say “here is a wide open border, without any other natural deterrent?”.

If a wall costs 50 billion and has an estimated deterrent rate of 90% but a fence that’s already there has an effective deterrent rate of 80%. Is 10% reduction worth 50 billion?

What is the risk acceptance level?

There is so much missing information that people who want to have an informed opinion, just simply cannot.

In a discussion about closing the southern border to curb illegal immigration, trying to shift the focus on to the possibility of terrorists coming into the country through airports is not logical. Well, unless you are a shifty liberal like dantes who never wants to talk about the subject at hand that is.

No. There are only about 350 miles of primary fencing (such as you see at San Diego and Yuma) which has proven to be quite effective. Most of the rest of the existing fencing is not much more than a stock fence … some of it consists of nothing more than bollards to keep cars from being driven across, but which does nothing to stop people on ATVs, motorcycles or on foot from crossing with impunity.

The area where the new wall would be built are at the locations identified as the most critical by the Border Patrol. I expect they want more fence than Trump’s proposal will provide, but it’s a start. Any additional barrier will be better than nothing.

You keep repeating the same strawman arguments and dropping the same red herrings.

The numbers as posted by BP show that where we have effective physical barriers illegal crossings are down 95-99%. This isn’t even arguable, that’s coming directly from the CPB. If you wish to argue their figures visit their website and email them or call them directly to argue your case.

Last week in a single incident 376 OTM’s from Central America were arrested in one interdiction effort where they had easily tunneled under a fence designed to be a “vehicle barrier”.

While it’s worked well to reduce vehicle traffic it certainly isn’t an effective barrier against people willing to dig a shallow ditch to get underneath it due to the lack of deep footings or pillars.

Last year 396,000 people were arrested illegally crossing the southern border and the CPB generally goes with the estimate of catching 1:10 who make such attempts. That means nearly 4 million made the attempt and would have been successful absent interdiction.

If we could further reduce that number by 90% of more it would be a huge success. Even half that number would greatly reduce the strain on the BP and ICE not to mention the backlog in the immigration courts.

The serious “crisis” is in the increased numbers of unaccompanied minors and “family units” that have completely overwhelmed the entire system over the last decade.

Why does it matter? Don’t you trust the Border Patrol to understand where they need barriers and where they don’t? Do you think that they are so incompetent that they need you to review their plans to check them for errors?

Apparently not but at the same time her only answer seems to be more incompetent BP agents.

Makes perfect sense!

So, if your carpet is already wet there is no reason fix the hole in the roof? Great thinking there buddy.

Ignore the leak and keep replacing the carpet silly.

In other words it’s already proven that barriers and walls actually do work! Imagine that! Usually anything that the Democrats are arguing or are opposed to the opposite is true! Go with instinct!

That’s been the case for centuries, the “barrier deniers” are the new “flat earthers”.

Even some Democrats are calling for Trump to declare a National emergency! I wonder if doing so would be a trap for Trump which is why he is reluctant to follow through with his threat!

Couldn’t see that coming. Right out of the same playbook Dems used on Reagan. Trump’s not falling for it.

Oh I got that. It’s amazing what actually enforcing our immigration laws will do, huh? Does that also take into account we’re no longer counting people turned away at the border as deportations like we were under your boy Obama?

For some it probably is, a dare to justify impeachment. For others who haven’t completely sold themselves out to the left it’s probable more about preserving their seats.

It may very well come to a civil war as our politicians chose to do nothing at the direction of half the population.

Because half the population hates Trump and wouldn’t believe anything he says.

Is that really true? Once you strip out the voter fraud, I doubt that would be the case. The Libtard Socialist Democrats and their SJW Soyboy supporters are very good and loud at virtue signalling, but it doesn’t mean that half the country hate Trump

I don’t know about that. I doubt half of America even bothers voting at this point. There were plenty of people who voted for Obama twice as are there still plenty of people who openly admit they would vote for Hillary if she runs a third time, despite all their dirty laundry. I never doubt the extent of the stupidity some of my fellow Americans are capable of. But then it’s like George Carlin used to say, “think of the dumbest person you’ve ever met and realize half the people are even dumber than that.”
