I think it’s going to be pretty serious for China in the long run as indicated by their sudden decision to cut remaining tariffs on US goods by another 40% unilaterally.
This interruption in manufacturing and it’s impact on the world shows just how vulnerable all nations that are depending on China for manufactured goods are and as a result we’ll see more and more manufacturing moved out of China as a result.
China is losing it’s best leverage on the developed world and that’s a good thing.
Basically the quarantine (which means 14) period is too short. It has to be twice as long.
Since it is a man-made virus with AIDS genes inserted, it will keep mutating and eventually become less virulent.
Question is, how long it will take. Weeks? Months? Years?
Maybe, but remember the half glass full thing. It might get worse but it won’t last
I remember a few from my days at ABC World News, while living in Lake Mary such as Charlie, Ivan, Wilma
That is hard to say, but for a country that has lifted itself out of poverty in less than 30 years and a rising middle class that has gotten used to a higher standard of living, I would imagine it’s citizens have a level of complacency that is more resigned to their own status quo and are anxious to get back to doing business. My hope is for the US that this is enough to shift the chess board pieces to its own advantage to secure in protecting the vulnerabilities that is currently being exposed to in the wake of this crisis. It certainly will exacerbate resetting the world trade dynamics in the broader scope of trade something that was already in motion before this virus outbreak started and that to me is a good thing.
I think Trumps timely visit to India is pretty telling in terms of providing an option for US multinational companies looking to shift their operations from China and India is the next best thing.
A local school has basically stopped functioning due to everyone getting sick. No one is talking about it.
They’ve run out of substitutes.
So may kids are missing that they’re canceling classes. They’re taking the kids and putting them into whatever rooms have teachers, and then they’re just letting the kids play on their phones all day.
This has been going on for over 2 weeks.
The local drugstores are having people lining up outside the doors on delivery days and buying all the face masks as soon as they’re unloaded.
Supposedly, it’s the flu.
Yeah…
I’ve been alive for a while now and I’ve never seen anything like what’s happening here. I’ve never seen a school get unofficially shut down due to illness.
I’m in the Midwest US, in a town and a state that has no reported cases that I know of.
I know people in Florida who are seeing similar stuff.
Seems like a mighty big coincidence that a local school is unable to function because of the “flu.”
I’m in Florida, and although I haven’t witnessed anything like this myself, I’ve heard similar accounts to yours: more than 50% of classes absent, many teachers out sick, no more substitutes available, combining 2 and even 3 classes, not even trying to teach because there are so many absentees they’ll have to re-teach anyway.
But no one even seems suspicious that its coronavirus. They all say it’s just a bad flu season.
I sometimes forget just how out of the loop a lot of people are. When a friend first mentioned this happening in her daughter’s school late last week I jokingly said the coronavirus is here (and I was just kidding) and it only barely registered with her what I was even talking about. She said something like “oh yeah, I saw something about the people trapped on the cruise ship in China, haha.”
I still doubt it’s coronavirus, but I’m self aware enough to realize that I only think that because if it were then surely we’d know about it, right?
You trolling us bro? I have heard of schools in the US closing and obviously everywhere in the world is short on masks because the chinks bought them all up to send home. Hope you’re just trolling people that are worried about this.
No, I’m telling you the God’s honest truth. I’m currently 2 blocks away from the school in question.
Does the school have a Corona outbreak? Obviously, I can’t know this. I just know that it has not been able to hold regular classes for 2 weeks, and no one is talking about it.
I’ve seen flu outbreaks before. Whatever is going on at this school is unprecedented, and NO ONE is talking about it.
Oh…uh, yeah, we’re fucked. I mean I already knew we had tons of cases going unreported in the US because there’s been almost no testing done, but I didn’t think so many people were getting sick that schools were experiencing things like that. Considering that most people are only going to show mild symptoms…Yikes. Glad I freaked out about this weeks ago
The mortality rate is only 2-4% if medical infrastructure remains intact. The mortality rate for old Boomers is much higher though. The entire presidential lineup could be eliminated, including Trump, leaving the Antichrist Pete Buttigieg. Antichrist Pete is reportedly sick right now, but he’s probably just innoculating himself to the virus.
