Jun 07, 2019 · Former Minneapolis police officer Mohamed Noor was sentenced to 12 1/2 years in prison on Friday for fatally shooting a white woman , Justine Ruszczyk Damond, in 2017, AP reports. Why it matters: The question of race has cast a shadow over the trial since it began.
She committed no crime, called 911 for assistance, and was shot down by the officer. He never even attempted to weigh the situation. He gets 12 1/2 years in prison; which probably means he’ll be out in 5. Looks like an incarceration precedent was set. Regardless of an officers behavior, no officer should get more than 12 1/2 years.
