I know this car on a personal level! My father’s friend had this car and traded it in later on for a newer one. Same color too. Seeing this is very Weird!
I loved it. My brother ended up with it when my dad upgraded. I don’t remember what happened to it later. I just remember my brother racing around Mulholland drive in it.
I always loved gunboats. Had a Lincoln 4 door convertible.
Also British cars & bikes. TR 8, Sunbeam Tiger, MG C, Auston Healy 100. Bikes - my favorite was the 850 Norton Commando. Had a Triumph Tiger, BSA Victor, Royal Enfield. All the cars had shitty electrical systems.
There were also some neat looking old Jaguar’s, but they had lots of terrible problems too,
I was just checking out Steve McQueens old Jag. Some strange ones in the day, but some of mid 50’s versions were quite unique and stylish!
Steve McQueens Jag
Buddy of mine
had a 58/57 Olds, Black/Grey and all Chrome. We called it, “The3 Black Bomb”. You can’t imagine the fun we had in that car, sometimes the 3 of us would get as many as nine girls to jump in to go run up and and down main, hang out on “The Lot” and then we’d drag as many were willing off to the dance Hall.
Great days.
This car is worth in the millions. I never seen one in person but I am told they are extremely rare and worth a lot of money.
I road in one. I was hitching from Boston down to PA ( Navy ); it was dark & the car stopped. The driver said ( yelled ) step back; and the gull wing door opened. So very cool. I don’t believe the windows open. My friends who have the antiques & classics warehoused, have a 1937 Bugatti; also very very cool. But my favorites are the Packards.
I remember an old biography of racer Sterling Moss. If I remember correctly, he was famous for racing a Gullwing. Edit: I watched the video. My memory was right.
Sterling Moss, there is a name I haven’t heard in a long time. Its right up there with Parnelli Jones. Lol!
I think he was the legend of the legends.
My gosh, he’s still alive! 90 yrs old
Now I remember I saw him win the United States Grand Prix at Riverside!
I remember watching on youtube some races he went up against Juan Manuel Fangio, the two were teamates if I am not mistaken driving Mercedes. That is off the top of my head.
I wonder how these are? Take it up to Mulholland?
I wonder if it would still feel like a true Porsche? Are these just glorified Honda Civics now?
About $98,000.
A friend of mine was on Parnelli’s engine crew at Indy. He and his dad sold engine rebuilding equipment and he knew how to make engines powerful and to stay together at high rpm.
I had a '78 F-250 4WD with 400cid engine and 4.11 rear axle (4.10 front axle). I got the engine under water and bent two rods in trying to crank it as I was being pulled out by a tractor. (Silly me! Water doesn’t compress!)
I decided to rebuild the engine in my shop. Lee offered to do the “insides” if I would strip it down to the cast iron (leaving heads, intake manifold and oil pan attached). He bored it, shaved the heads, installed racing pistons and rods, a “recreational” cam shaft, a semi-high rise intake, solid roller lifters and a new carburetor. I added headers.
The 400 factory engine had become a 406 racing engine with a higher red line, a quicker response to throttle and much more horsepower.
My truck became a highway rocket ship. It had a 4-speed stick shift with a “grandma” gear. I normally used only 2nd, 3rd and 4th. It would “wind out” at 35, 55 and 105 and getting to 105 was quick. I could embarrass Porsche drivers in traffic.
I can remember in elementary school having a drill to get under the desk if there was a nuclear attack.
