If school education is an extention of home educations, it boils down to this: What kind of people do the parents want their kids to become?

This day and age, people are too busy making money to care for their children. Why do so many women work? Because they want more money.
In the Soviet Union and its satellite states, women had to work, because they were forced to. So situation is not the same.
As for teachers, there are really few who are passionate about education. They are just employees, public or private, who want to make ends meet. Pathetic.
So you would rather teach your own children, yourself. That’s fine for you, but many people don’t consider that a good option for a bunch of reasons, not least because they are not teacher-like themselves and/or don’t want to limit their children to only their own knowledge base. Also, there is no reason why all people need to have schooling of their children a mandatory obligation on their own time, thereby limiting what they can do with their own lives when public education worked well enough for many years, and it can work well again.
We aren’t obligated to dig our own wells and septic fields, there is a public utility that does it better for less time & effort; we don’t need to grow & can our own food, hide our money under the bed, make our own furniture, go to town in a horse & buggy on a dirt path, treat our injuries and sicknesses ourselves, etc., etc. Society forms into communities that live close together and industries make our stuff better than we can, cheaper, too. Why would we covet the Greek lifestyle that was UNDOUBTEDLY more difficult than the surviving literature mentions? They have starvation years, blah, blah, and lived 45 years, at best. We turn up the thermostat when it suits us, or down for that matter; we have foods from around the world; lettuce & bananas everyday of the year Blah, blah, and nice clothes without sewing a stitch. The Greeks may have had time on their hands because there was nothing else to do other than work like dogs in the growing season and pray for rain. We have plenty we’d like to do.
I like what society should be. I expect our intelligentsia to be useful in applying themselves and their great intellects to furthering that. Such is not the case. I see a day coming when being so-called highly educated (as in degreed from a great university) will not be as respected as it is today by some. There are a goodly portion of degrees that are laughable on their face, if not downright useless and/or counter-productive and damaging to society. Many in the research end of so-called education are doing a disservice to society, in spades, as is evidenced in the so-climate crisis. Look no further than the medical community from great universities, researchers, to medical societies, such as AMA, UK’s RSM, etc.; institutions like WHO, agencies like FDA & NIH; all of which are filled to the rafters with very highly educated, gifted, oft-times brilliant people all of whom voiced the party line without, evidently, having enough personal knowledge of whether or not the vaccine was what is was supposed to be. The very few who raised questions were openly suppressed. That alone, should have sounded the alarm to lots of others, but didn’t. Instead, they fell in line. The govt that rarely gets anything right shuts down dissent, and the rest fell in line. That should have been a red flag to all.
The entire concept of free speech being the vehicle that brings all information forward to compete on its own merits was trampled by high muckimucks, and only a few of the rabble objected. Shame on them.
Don’t ask me to do someone else’s job if I want it done right. The resounding answer will always be the same: shit, or get off the pot. You are replaceable; the customer is not. Once the customer base thins to a point of not supporting the mass of the vendor base, it collapses like a house of cards and is replaced by whatever is standing in the wings. I personally know a few former teachers that withdrew because the system offended their personal sensibilities. Teaching used to be a vocation bordering on avocation, and I think it still is. Much like motherhood and other giving-of-self, difficult tasks that people take on knowing that it is not easy, but is a worthy contribution to society. This kind of person needs education as much as education needs them.
If I had young children, I wouldn’t mind them being taught natural science subjects in schools, such as math, physics, chemitry… but NEVER history and other social science subjects. Biology probably not, because there are still so many unknows about plants, animals and ourselves, and I don’t want them taught prejudiced views.
If black kids do poorly in math (which they do), why don’t they make it public, instead of hush hush. Children should be taught each other’s strengths and weaknesses, so that they learn to help each other.
There may or may not be problems with black kids in one category or another, but since we are not comparing apples to apples with kids in equivalent schools the numbers are going to be skewed. When a major league team is disproportionately staffed with rookies the stats look awful compared to a balanced team. A while back I related the case of black stats showing receding intelligence due to the endless cycle of welfare moms having welfare moms having welfare moms caused by the govt automatically granting young girls welfare support when having babies out of wedlock at early teenage years. That didn’t start until the late 50s early 60s. Before that, those girls would have to give up the baby and get on with life, -sadder, but a little wiser. Each girl would have been counseled by social and clerical people in her community
to re-evaluate relationships with family and friends and continue education, make a better future for herself, and at the same time the baby would have been adopted by a good set of mature parents and received not just love, but the care & guidance that we all need to grow up right & proper. Instead, govt dollars are spent without regard for what happens to the mom & baby. Very few exit that trap; moms or children. And it drives down the black IQ scores. It’s reversible: go back to giving the govt dollars to the churches and local social worker helpers that intervened in a way that helped the girl, the child, and the community.

The role that race plays in the failure of some children to excel is a large number (proportion) of Blacks and Latinos in lower income areas and those areas are disproportionately populated by unmarried Mothers and their children, and serviced by poorly performing schools, too. One is not worse than the other. Together, these bring together children who are ill-prepared do class-work into classes crowded with too many others just like them for a teacher to give the personal attention to that they need: Young women who need to divide their time between helping their kids with homework and working, but without a father figure in the home to help with income or help with discipline produces children without focus. The teachers, even if very well-intentioned, can only divide their time into some finite number of blocks to give personal help at the specific time needed. The system is doomed to produce citizens poorly prepared to serve society. You earn money based upon “doing” for other people. “Do” less, or “do” poorly; earn little or nothing. C’est la vie…

Re, USA stats; if you removed black & Latino crime from the totals, the USA goes from very high crime rates for an advanced country to close to the very lowest crime rates. There are a lot of factors influencing the policies to allow or encourage that, but the latest cycle downward is due to lack of enforcement. Period. You need to jail bad people every chance you get, and keep them off the streets. Burglars do their thing often and if you take one off the streets, he doesn’t commit a crime a week for a living. That’s 50 per year, or more! That’s what criminals do for a living, break the law as often as necessary to keep them in money. Giuliani’s “Broken Windows Enforcement” works like magic. The high crime levels allowed in Dem districts is totally a democrat party policy, and as long as people in big cities and Dem states elect Dems it will never change. I couldn’t agree more with part of that. However, a great % of criminals are the result of growing up in conditions that aren’t right: children need two parents, and there are no substitutes for one man who is the father, and the other the mother. Children learn bad habits from parents, so the quality of the parents as to personal standards, honesty, all the Ten Commandments (having nothing to do with the religious aspects of which) all matter and are tools that shape the attitudes that guide each of us between right and wrong. Do they grow up with a crystal clear or a blurry view of who is entitled to my stuff? How important to the individual is learning, self control, respect for authority, setting and achieving goals, etc., etc?
60 % of what a person is going to learn in their lifetime will be learned by age 6 years. In the next 12 years the attitudes and knowledge base is widened and reinforced. By the time they get too big to control physically, they are what they are; good, bad or indifferent; forever.
Here’s where we differ: I think that regardless of race and IQ limitations, a child raised in good conditions will stay out of trouble. Stupid or smart has nothing to do with anything other than how successful the criminal is. I knew one guy who I class as much smarter than me and/or almost anyone I ever knew. He was always one step ahead of the law and never did the same thing twice (white collar/business criminal). He could fool anyone and came across a nice, ordinary guy. He had the morals of a snake. I was sure he would kill anyone who was a threat. I backed away as quietly and unobtrusively as I could from our proposed business relationship. The stats are built on criminals who get caught, and are dumb enough to get caught. The smart ones get away. So, I see it as even if you are right, which I don’t agree with, anything we can do to remove any of our population from crumby childhoods is in our best interest as a society, -and cost effective.
