Here we go, it’s reparations time. Both Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris have gone on the record in support, I don’t have much doubt Booker and Sanders will jump on the bandwagon soon.
Democratic Sens. Kamala Harris (Calif.) and Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), who are both running for president, have reportedly said they support reparations for black Americans affected by slavery.
The New York Times reported Thursday that Harris affirmed her support for reparations in a statement after agreeing last week with a radio host that reparations are necessary.
I almost hope they win and deliver on reparations. Because it is long overdue for the left and politicians to be taught a fundamental lesson. And that is that this country can only possibly work with the consent of the governed. Someone should ask them what happens if 30-50 million white people decide they have had enough and stop paying their federal taxes.
How about we have a compromise. Anyone who was a slave in America and alive today should receive reparations. The NBA millionaires can set up a funding mechanism for this purpose. We can honor these unfortunate souls at half time of next years NBA all star game during black history month. Colin Kaepernick can hand out the checks.
Supporters have said the policy is necessary to address slavery and other racist parts of U.S. history. Such a move could cost several trillion dollars, according to experts.
I’m sure that is going to go over like a lead balloon.
That’s easy. There are none. Slavery was abolished in the US in 1865 when the 13th amendment was ratified. I can guarantee there is not a single person alive who is old enough to have been around that long.
2019 - 1865 = 154 years. Keep in mind a person who was actually a slave BEFORE the 13th was ratified would have had to have been alive LONGER than 154 years as of today.
Oldest person in the world:
Over three decades away from the target. Not even close.
Why haven’t people like Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren who are calling for reparations already been paying black people directly from their bank accounts? They have the cash. Let them be the first to pony up.
Even if any were alive we are not in arrears to former slaves. They have no claim that wouldn’t involve either an ex post facto law or working a corruption of blood.
