WASHINGTON — Two months after declaring all U.S. troops are leaving Syria, President Donald Trump wrote to members of Congress that he now agrees “100%” with keeping a military presence in Syria.
A (((bipartisan))) group of Senators and Representatives wrote to Trump on Feb. 22, applauding his decision to keep a small residual force in Syria.
“We support a small American stabilizing force in Syria,” the group wrote, adding that a force “which includes a small contingent of American troops and ground forces from our European allies, is essential to ensure stability and prevent the return of ISIS.”
In a copy of the letter obtained by NBC News, Trump highlighted a paragraph in the letter about the U.S. goals in Syria, which said, “Like you, we seek to ensure that all of the gains made in Syria are not lost, that ISIS never returns, that Iran is not emboldened, and that we consolidate our gains and ensure the best outcome in Geneva for American interests.”
“I agree 100%. ALL is being done,” President Trump responded, writing directly on the letter and signing it.
Since before he took office, Trump has promised to end the fight against the Islamic State, criticizing the cost to the U.S. in both blood and treasure. In a video message on Twitter posted Dec. 19, 2018, the president said: “Our boys, our young women, our men, they’re all coming back and they’re coming back now. We won.”
Late last month, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders confirmed that some U.S. troops will stay in Syria after the Syrian Democratic Forces finish clearing out Baghuz.
This is the deep state out-maneuvering Trump. Or, the deep state gave him something in exchange for staying in Syria. I can’t be sure which - but this is a drastic reversal of Trump’s decision, which is what caused Mad Cuck Mattis to walk in the first place.
“We passed tax reform!” Okay great, where’s my wall? ”Historic criminal justice reform!” Okay great, when does mass deportation start? ”The economy!” Okay great, when is Hillary getting locked up? ”US embassy moved to Jerusalem!” Okay great, when are ALL of our troops leaving Syria? ”Two Supreme Court Justices!” Okay great, but WHERE IS MY WALL?
Right, that’s why I didn’t vote for Hillary. Border crossings just hit the highest level in 12 years. Where is the wall? We don’t need to fuck around in Syria. We need the wall.
Would she have cut your taxes? Gave you two conservative Supreme court picks? I’d like a wall too but I didn’t see anyone else with a chance of winning offering one in the general election, did you?
There has never been a greater array of opposing forces brought to stop a president than what has been assembled against Trump. Besides… he already accomplished everything I voted for. So mission accomplished as far as Im concerned.
No. And if you read my post I already addressed all of the things that you said, plus more. It’s not like I’m not acknowledging Trump’s accomplishments. The central point of his campaign was immigration and the wall - right now immigration is out of control and we don’t have a wall.
Mostly everyone came here from Freebird, which was a pro-Trump board. Don’t get all worked up because some of us who voted for Trump are actually holding him accountable.
Have not heard much about Syria lately. So I dont know why I had this dream last night.
I’m a US defense contractor working somewhere in the area of Syria. The Syrians capture me. They make me fly their fighter/bombers against Israel. Of course Israel is firing Air to Ground missiles in defense. I manage to survive two missions. On the third mission, I break away from the group, make some jinking maneuvers to avoid the missiles and fly into a desert-like area in Israel land safely. I am picked up by some Israelis and eventually get home.
Cool dream. And aside from a Cessna 175 that I almost flipped over in the skies above the Gulf in 1972, I’ve never flown a plane. But occasionally, I dream that I can fly jets.
I wonder if fighter pilots dream they can solve Maxwells equations. Hmmmm…maybe not.
