There was no secular democracy, it was a division between Islamic fundamentalists and modernists.

Whatever government, or so called government, existed in every Muslim country, Islam had it’s fingers in it. Never a separation. We, the US, have only been involved in the ME for the past 100 or so years; so tell me, what caused the previous 1,400 years of insanity?

Yes, 100 years of exploitation and interfering nation building and destroying, democracy toppling covert and overt operations that has depleted and destroyed infrastructure and cultural cites, resulted in the loss of antiquities and heritage, the loss of hundreds of thousands of civilians, much of which has resulted in the escalation of Islamic extremism, increased global refugees, the rise of the Islamic State, decimation of Iraq, A-Stan, Libya, Syria, the waste of trillions and trillions of dollars, tens of thousands of US casualties, and we are not any better for it, nor of course are the citizens of the region.
