The financial landscape of the Western world has changed to the extent that most women have to work to help their husbands or partners provide for the children so for most women it’s not really a choice working is a financial necessity
Society would be better off if low and medium skilled workers could afford to provide for a family buy a decent home and have a stay at home wife
What about the single woman who decides she wants to do and have everything all by herself without getting married: Kids, Career, whatever. Those are the selfish ones who will cause harm to the kid.

Cut a whole lot of taxes and regulations and they could.
Large corporations for the most part however would rather have many more poorly paid and benefited women working and dependent on the company rather than paying their husbands a decent enough wage to support a traditional family with a stay at home mom.
With working couples you can pretty well figure that on average one of them is working just to pay for the taxes and health insurance for both and they end up “living” on a single income anyway.
