"After 18 months of negotiations and nearly 20 years of war, the US and the Taliban signed an agreement set to pave the way for the withdrawal of all US and NATO troops from Afghanistan and a commitment by the Taliban that Afghan territory will not be used to launch attacks on other countries.
There are high hopes that the agreement will be followed by intra-Afghan talks between all major stakeholders and aiming to chart a course for peace in the country."
It appears that this deal was fragile to begin with and setting free 5000 prisoners is a hard pill for some to swallow. I suspect that further negotiations will take place to appease all because let’s face it, Kabul is corrupt as hell and there is no such thing as a Afghan people where various languages are spoken as a result of never being a nation state in all of its history just a hole for neighbouring countries to have drifted to and an excuse for the Military private contractors to suck up tax payers money to have a proving ground for its weapons development throughout the years.
Very often, a post which is only tenuous to the thread can be more interesting or thought-provoking than on-topic ones? (I’m tempted to add ‘like some of TWR’s’, but I’d better not. lol)
It really is amazing that a bunch of patriots armed with Kalashnikovs and RPGs can bring the mighty western militaries into submission? The point is that they never have been defeated, and that’s because they’re warriors and think like warriors. Let’s face it, we only went into Afghanistan to make the Russians seem like losers?? All the time US dollars are gushing in, they won’t let us go. It’s why you’re still there 18 years on ffs!
Very often by you perhaps because EITHER you can’t be bothered to read or you simply like to ignore the basic rules and decorum of this site!
OK let me explain this to you so your dense brain and logic can comprehend why I always react negatively towards you and your posts.
This site relies on self policing by members in order to keep topics being discussed on track and due to the moderators not wanting to get involved all the time this is how it has been. So if I create a thread topic that interests me and one that I want to discuss that also interests others here then we discuss the topic at hand and that pertains to a particular category. There is a very good reason why this site has so many categories because it is specific in the focus of a particular topic of discussion. That is why there are such categorires such US Politics, law, Guns Conspiracy etc.
If you actually used your brain and observed the rules here then its not that hard to see or follow why this site is set up the way it is. You on the other hand are always trying to derail thread topics by discussing unrelated things that has nothing to do with what is being discussed it gets rather annoying after awhile and eventually that is where conflict is created and is a big reason why most here ignore you. Judging from the threads that you create, there isn’t much interest for your brand of interests. I mean how many asteroid threads can one person create?
Anyway, if you are deliberately derailing a thread, I am going to call you out on it, especially ones that I create. It is nothing personal, I just want to want to keep the conversation on track and not deviate into another conspiracy discussion, when we already have a category for that.
Now if you don’t mind, I like to get back to this threads topic and don’t wish to have to debate this with you any longer. If you have a topic you want to discuss then I suggest you create your own thread topic and please stop trying to derail other topics here!
Within reason, but you seem to do it all the time, its a pattern with you, and is the reason why I have conflict with you here all the time, never mind that you don’t bother reading a particular topic that is being discussed in the OP before inserting some of your insane comments at times. It gets rather annoying for those who are trying to have a serious discussion.
See? This is exactly what I am talking about, you basically don’t read and skip over what is being said and why you are annoying.
As I will mentioned to you again as I already did, this site relies on self policing of members here. I created the thread therefore I will contribute to it to help stay on topic. Again please stop trying to derail this thread. If you want to further this discussion I am more than willing to discuss this in private, and we can even invite one of the moderators to join the discussion so that you can maybe have a better understanding on how things work, because clearly you are insistent on making up your own rules.
Rumsfeld had it right despite your fixation on Bin Laden. After we cleaned out almost all of the original targets we could have hunted down the mother f----- with smaller teams.
Hanging around to nation build never works in warload societies. The Taliban live there, we don’t. Fight your declared war, kill the enemy, and get the f— out.
That puts it in succinct terms and couldn’t agree more! I served under Rumsfeld and he was a Hawk! My favourite quote from him is: “you go to war with the army you have not the one you wish to have”! Same scenario in Iraq, we conquered it in less than a month and could have been out of there in less than a year, but someone had the bright idea (Paul Bremmer) of disbanding the Iraqi Army when they were willing to do what we wanted! Instead they turned it into another opportunity to fleece the tax payers by rewarding fat contracts to Halliburton.
One day before 911, then U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said that his department couldn’t account for roughly $2.3 trillion worth of transactions.
I am sorry are you trying to start a conversation here? Or are you peddling more conspiracy theories as usual?
Here you might try reading up more! The quote you are referring to was used out of context and there was never 2.3 Trillion dollars missing and the transactions were accounted for! Who is the stupid one again?
Oh I see when you respond this is all you have when losing an argument you keep using the same boring lines? Haven’t expanded your vocabulary yet?
You see some of us worked in our government that has kept track of the hoaxes that people like you love to perpetuate and know better when someone as simple as you is posting pure bullshit! Unlike you, a German National living in Japan whose obsessed with feeding their hairy monsters and confirmation biases in order to try to find a conspiracy theory in every thread truly is defining the definition of a person suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder! Bravo the Digipoopoo strikes again as he posts back dated articles that has already been debunked! You internet sleuth you are! All too funny! Thanks now that is pretty hilarious!
“Rahmani noted that the one-week reduction in violence, which Esper said on Saturday marked the lowest level in years, has given the Afghan people “a glimmer of hope” for an enduring peace. But at the same time, officials in Kabul are concerned about the continued differences between the Taliban and Afghan government on key issues such as protecting women’s rights and other democratic values.”
We go there to kill Bin Laden almost twenty years ago and now we are discussing women’s rights with warlords. Hasn’t anyone remembered the term mission creep?
I have no fixation. That was the declared reason for going into Afghanistan to begin with.
We started off with an air campaign to take out those primary targets and sent in teams of Operators to track him down but they failed to get him located.
They next sent in a much lager force to attempt to cut off his escape routes into PK and even more hunter teams and still could not find him.
The mission then shifted to even more focus on the Taliban but that was like hunting ghosts. Every time we thought we were going to finally put them down they just faded into the populace until the pressure was off and they’d then reconstitute themselves as a fighting force and come back
During the Obama years the focus shifted again after the surge and our forces for the most part pulled back to the FB’s except in the central province and then the “leaders” just waffled endlessly and the Taliban slowly then took back about 80% of the country while our troops were mostly relegated to observer duty.
