Basic Rights in the US

A great progressive tax is a national sales tax, the more you spend the more you pay. A VAT another great progressive tax.

Itā€™s none of your business how much money someone else makes. Zero.

One would think this would be easy to understand.

You want a national sales tax and a VAT?

Never said it was MY business. This isnā€™t about ME. This is about the GOVERNMENT taxing citizens with a progressive tax code. Got it?

I never said that they could actually become richā€¦ I am staying that most strive to be rich. Isnā€™t that the goal? My point is no one going to stop striving to be rich because they get taxed 50% on every dollar beyond 10 mil.

Then the same is also true today, yes?

I remember those days.

Work those few extra hours thinking youā€™re going to make time and half but doesnā€™t show up in your final pay check.

Youā€™re the one going on and on about millions and paying more taxes.

How about we decide what a citizenā€™s share is and just all pay that and not worry about somebody elseā€™s bank account?

After all, thatā€™s the only thing we have in common; weā€™re citizens.

Says is all:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Th US already has the most progressive Federal Income Tax in the world.

Get it???

U.S. federal income tax structure ā€œmost progressiveā€ in the world, more than offsets regressively of state/local taxes

(Opportunity Washington, Author at Opportunity Washington)on Monday, December 3, 2018

Heading into the 2019 legislative session, weā€™re apt to be hearing more (again) about the need for progressive tax reform. Putting a little perspective on the issue, Brian Riedl, asenior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, reminds us of just how progressive the U.S. federal income tax is. In a commentary, Riedl writes,

In fact, Americaā€™s federal tax code is already the most progressivein the OECD, even adjusting for income inequality. The Congressional Budget Office reportsthat the top-earning 20 percent of taxpayers earn 53 percent of the income, yet pay 69 percent of all federal taxes, including 88 percent of all income taxes. The bottom 40 percent of earners earn 14 percent of the income while collectively paying no income tax, and less than 5 percent of all federal taxes. Tax code regressivity is not the problem.

This is probably the dumbest idea Iā€™ve seen in a while. Citizens electing what to give the government in taxation? Then it will be zero for most. Great! Now who builds our roads, for example?

Being a part of this great country has a cost. Nothing is free.

ROTFLMAO.

Half the working population pays little or no Federal income tax today.

Because the left wants everyone else to pay their bills.

For those who donā€™t understand the costs of running a businessā€¦That is a great post LouMan.

I would also add costs for workerā€™s comp, general liability, auto and licenses which are required and non-negotiable (unlike overhead) as are Federal and State taxes.

After all is said and done there really isnā€™t a whole hell of a lot of reward when you consider the actual risks.

Then, you have people who bitch about your prices so they turn to the unlicensed guy working out of the back of his pick up or illegals. When that turns to hell in a handbasket, they turn to the licensed to solve their problems.

I tried to keep it simple.

The amazing thing is how so many are clueless as to the cost of running business and why so many people in small business like myself just say thatā€™s enough.

So now I work on a very limited basis for my own needs. I pretty much have given the State/federal idiots the finger and said Iā€™ve had enough. I have several friends who have or will move to sole proprietor for the sam reasons.

We have a major problem the trades like roofing as the companies are sales outlets and contract out the labor to 1 person who speaks broken english and a crew of non english speakers. End of the day, h pays them in cash.

Makes it difficult for a real business to operate in the area.

You did keep it simple. Whether people can grasp the realities versus what they believe is another matter.

I will never forget a poster on the board that I was previously from ranting against a mom and pop shop for charging more for the same widget than he could buy at a big box store. The mom and pop store were price gougers, rip off artists and the like.

Nevermind that the mom and pop could only buy said widget for .90 cents and sell it for $1.00 while the big box stores, due to purchasing power and discounts. could buy it for .10 cents and sell it for .80 cents.

By the time you are compliant and the costs associated with such, many do throw up their hands. Why? Because all you do is get hammered by Mr. Homeowner who can get it cheaper from Juan Illegal who has no license or accountability.

And this is where we go back to (or at least me) do we want regulations to protect our citizens (high price), or do we want citizens who want no regulations and no protections (low price). Or do we want a lessening of regulations so that a legitimate business can provide a service at an affordable rate.

The people who say, just tax the wealthy in a progressive way to pay for it. The reality is the top 10% pay 70% of Federal Income taxes.

The call for more taxing instead of CUTTING SPENDING is beyond distressing as no matter how much they take, they will always spend more.

Some people are always looking for a deal. After a hail storm Iā€™m amazed that people of supposed intelligence will hire a door to door roofer, no references, no proof of insurance, because the price is cheap. I did laugh after the last storm we had a few people with shake roofs. The door to door guys came in and said we can replace your roof with an asphalt shingle and it wonā€™t cost you anything. We will pay your deductible.
Several hired them. They dealt with the insurance company for the homeowners and put on a 30 year shingle when they said it was a 50 year and collected the money from the insurance company and ran. The insurance company came out and inspected the roof and gave the homeowner a bill for the difference in a Shake roof and the 30 year shingle, about 10 grand. It went to court and all had to reimburse the insurance company for the difference as their roofer filed for installing a shake. The roofer was no where to be found, the company filed for bankruptcy.

No truer words ever spoken! :+1:

What I want is a level playing field. People DEMAND regulation on a global level, but on a personal level donā€™t support that which they demand.

I have reached a point in my business where I say, ā€œnope. find someone else to fix your problemsā€.

Yet take that premise back to the OP. Those that claim, support and vote for rights, protections and regulations but are unwilling to pay for and support them on an individual level.
