This is an incredible debacle. NATO members are bickering with and sanctioning fellow NATO member Turkey. There are even reports of Turkish artillery shelling positions near American special forces to cut them off from their former Kurdish ally.

Regarding NATO, it lost its significance when the Soviet Union collapsed (if NATO ever had any significance because the Cold War was a hoax).

And of course it would be quite stupid for Iran to do. They gain nothing by it and are much more likely to loose big. Also they spend 17 billion annually on their military to SA’s 75 billion, and they also know that Israel, SA and the US are ally’s, all with ambitions against Iran.
Oh the US was quite able. But that’s not the agenda. Toppling the Syrian government has been a long term USFP goal, transcending administrations. Seriously taking on the Islamic State or any others that are working against president Assad would be counterproductive. Russia and Iran have thwarted US objectives in Syria.
