Actually, to resolve it once and for all requires a Constitutional Convention to be called by two-thirds of the legislatures of the States and must be approved by three-fourths of the states.
That is not going to happen. So, all of the outcries are just political posturing and pandering. Using a tragedy for votes.
Because the politicians sure as hell don’t care about crime ridden neighborhoods where shootings happen on a daily basis.

About halfway through at least one of the cops smartened up and shot for the groin/pelvic girdle which instantly rendered him immobile.
They then all finished him with rapid mag dumps.
It should also be pointed out that the reason the shooter in El Paso was able to carry out his spree was the fact the owners of the mall had a “no gun policy” so no one who legally could carry was carrying in the store.
