Somehow I doubt that the Brits were concerned about all that when they were the invading force, conquering, exploiting and colonizing the planet to their own benefit? 
Oh, I quite agree … they and France should have instead teamed up with Russia against the Turks and not stopped till they’d taken out the Islamic Middle East and reduced Mecca to a smoldering ruin … but they just didn’t know about the oil and olives weren’t part an English Breakfast so what was in it for them?
