Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., introduced a bill with 10 other Senate Republicans that would allow victims of migrant crime in sanctuary cities and/or states to file suit against those jurisdictions.
Tillis introduced S 185, Justice for Victims of Sanctuary Cities Act of 2025, on Jan. 23.
The problem with sanctuary cities and states is they have no method or means to ensure that their asylum seekers remain in their sanctuary and, as such, if they’re allowed to leave and travel wherever they may choose, then those sanctuary cities and states are actually enacting immigration policy for the rest of the country which they have no authority to do.
This bill is worth the legal battle. It would stop much of the illegal protection of the immigrant criminals and force enforcement of existing immigration law.
