The video of someone ripping sticks of pineapple by grabbing the end of a geometric portion of the outer covering is bullshit.
Watch it and notice that when the portion (berry) grasped is pulled upward, adjacent portions (berries) separate from those below them. This indicates that a spatula or some other blade was inserted between (likely halfway to the core) before the ripping began.
This article says it’s for real, but it leaves out the pre-cutting step…although there is a knife in the still photo.
