# The Student Loan Crisis...An opinion piece

I think you’re right. And with Trump in charge of the federal government we have a shortage of everything. Most positions are filled by actors…

What we have the biggest shortage of is unemployed people and new applications for welfare.

It depends what you are trying to educate, doesn’t it? I have things squirming around under rocks in my backyard that could compete with many of today’s college students.

What is the value of a degree to a kid who can’t find anything other than a low wage entry level job?

Pretty sure -just by reading his post and using the English language - that he referred only to a particular mechanism of education. Is English not your first language? If you are having trouble debating, maybe… just maybe it’s on you.

America is lagging behind many other countries in education, to be sure, but I can assure you that America’s infrastructure isn’t dependent solely on uneducated labor.

Snobby elitism is how Trump won the 2016 election. Keep on keeping with these hateful rhetoric, you racist: is this why you want undocumented immigrant to flood the country, so you “educated elite” dont have to dirty your hand with manual labor?

Do you think engineers that build our airplanes, water systems, airports, put men in space or all the things that make your life comfortable, did so without an education? What about science and medicine? We need the guy that mixes concrete and pounds nails, and we need the guy that specs it too.

Why do you keep trying to have arguments nobody is making?

That’s good, education is the way…:+1:

It’s a bot pretending to be an entrepreneur and “intellectual”. It owns many businesses, apparently, the latest appears to be a “medical billing company”, yet it has the time in most day to argue on this forum, during normal business hours.

Ah, but are engineers really among the majors you will often find defaulting on student loans?

I’m addressing general trends here, not every last example.

Unlike (insert here) studies sociology programs your standard engineering degree is a marketable one.

I will go farther to say that many degrees, such as squishy “science” programs, are very different from things like engineering or math or physics because they need to convince people they are needed rather than their need being obvious. That’s them at their best … at their worst they’re like that one old line where the number of social problems expand to occupy the number of social workers available … like lawyers, the more you have the more marketable their educations become directly proportional to how much worse they collectively screw society up.

Now, one of the ways these people screw up the world is by convincing people that their ever more progressive drivel is necessary to make a good all around education, and so they sneak their unmarketable 'disciplines" into wider curriculum and boost the cost of education for everyone, even engineers who would otherwise be quite happy spending their tuition on another lab.

And of course the Left driving indoctrination rather than education is just one other aspect of this whole thing.

Have you seen studies that reveal how many kids these days lack confidence to change a light bulb?

I wouldn’t call them educated and a trade school graduate uneducated…

I paid my own way through college. Took time, but no debt. Takes more time when you’re working. Then again, I only attended college for my own head. I already had a high paying job. I didn’t really need to study philosophy or logic, to improve my skill as a pipe fitter - code welder. Or did I? Any education has value.

I didn’t see where Jim was complaining about that. I was responding to his general criticism of higher education in America. Certainly universities lean sharply left on social and political issues. But academically they are cranking out engineers, scientists, doctors, lawyers, economists, etc…

… and then they are cranking out other “disciplines” that result in many student loan defaults.

Americans tend to simply no longer understand he value of delayed gratification, and it’s a big part of why they both are deeply in debt and have any but a horrible view of socialism.

Oooohhhh kkkaaay. But I wasn’t speaking to that in my remarks to Jim…:man_shrugging:

No you were responding to something Jim never said.

True I suppose. Kind of like Trump bragging that he was smart for not paying taxes.

It is smart to take every deduction and credit you are legally entitled to.
