Do you pre-boil (par boil) your dauphinoise potatoes before they go into the oven?
I do that with Christmas giftsā¦but a lot of things that I like and then figure out who might like them.
ā¦except for the grandchildrenā¦I get their want lists from their parentsā¦then buy everything on the lists until Iām over my budget.
Theyāre cooked through but still firm so you can chop /slice them and they donāt fall apart.
Nice!
Why is it that most of us big nasty gun toting white American guys take such pride in our cooking?
Are those prawns, or just abbey-normal shrimp?
My wife hates it that I never follow anyone elseās recipes, rather only looking at a few for inspiration and then throwing out the rule book.
This weekend, my family is hoping that I cook Ox Tail Soup, an old family specialty. That is one recipe that I donāt mess with.
Because you have a big girth and big ego to feed?
I prefer men who have no need to brag. In our culture, a need to brag indicates an inferiority complex and such weaknesses get mercilessly laughed at.
Unfortunately Normandy has sold out to the EU. The Union Jack has been replaced by the EU flag. I am not joking. They have also rewritten history in the museums (funded by the EU) there. Not worth visiting.
The link title says:
Nowhere in Normandy is there a monument to the Britons who fell
but the article title says:
Nowhere on the Normandy beaches is there a monument to the 22,442 Britons who fellā¦
Does No. 5 in the list below count as a memorial?
ā¦and surely these cemeteries have not been relocated.
There is no memorial at Arromanches. Arromanches was where they built the harbour. They also built another one further up on the American landing sites, but that got destroyed by the storm.
Anyhow, the EU are writing Britain out of D Day history, so no, I donāt think a memorial will be allowed.
Is the Museum gone? Iām not questioning your knowledge, but it does say in #5:
The D-Day Museum not only pays homage to the British forces and the other allies in the Battle of Normandy,ā¦
ā¦and it is at Arromanches. I donāt know how close the museum is to the beach, but it has to be near the beach.
Iām just trying to enlighten myselfā¦and I do like the conceptual rendering of the planned memorial.
Yes the D-Day museum is there, but that is all it is, a rather small and crappy museum, but at least that was there before the EU got involved. Ironic as it sounds, Normandy is not the place to visit if you want to pay homage to D-Day or learn about what went on. They have made it more like a Disney theme park. The place to go is IWM Duxford - the D-Day stuff there is massive and all from the British perspective i.e. real history.
The D-Day museum at Arromanches is right next to the beach. I think what the article means is a monument, with names of the dead and missing.
The American Memorial at the Cemetery overlooks the beach and was provided by the US on soil granted from France at no fee, no tax and the grounds and the memorial are maintained by the US.
I donāt know what arrangements the Canadians have.
When I read your linked article, it gave me the impression that France built memorials to the Americans and the Canadians but not to the Britons. I now think that is not the case. Britain should have built one long ago.
As for the EU re-writing history concerning the war, I think that sucks. The French and the Germans will likely do what it takes to make themselves look better. Macron and Merkel will certainly not object the embellishing the truth.
Just the normie bag of raw (ācolossalā size) shrimp, but I take small measures to ensure theyāre at least wild caught and from the Atlantic. We actually have shrimp farms in my county at the fish hatcheries, but thereās something off-putting about them.
Last night I did a paleoāish dish. Good old fashioned steak and greens!
No the American cemetery is at Colleville sur Mer and overlooks Omaha beach. There is a huge monument there overlooking the cemetery. I wouldnāt want to go there again. It certainly is not what you would expect.
Iāll not be going across the pond to see anything there. It just seemed to me that the article was saying that the Brits were ignored and the Americans and Canadians were not. I canāt imagine France granting burial and memorial soil to 2 countries and not to Britain. Itās seems more like Britain is just now getting around to building their own memorial.
Itās not up to France now, itās up to Macron and the EU. So, do you think weād get it?
Outside the Overlord Museum. What the hell did the EU have to do with Operation Overlord or for that matter, France?! And it gets worse inside.
What did the EU have to do with it? I am guessing the Naziās! After all, its founding members were from the Nazi party, so in a round about way this is their slant of being represented!
