Your response, apparently, is that Russia is really no worse than the US; therefore, it is simply “none of our business.”
Ronald Reagan described America as “a shining city upon a hill.”
I think that description is quite appropriate.
Apparently, you do not…
I do not remember the US specifically targeting these groups, in a campaign of terror…
Then let me ask you this:
If Ukraine were a NATO member–and it very well might be, in the future–would you then support aggressive actions by the West in its defense?
Or would you simply find some other excuse to see if we might possibly mollify Putin, so that we really do not have to confront him?
So if America with the most sophisticated military in the world kills 200,000 civilians in Iraq, they are either sloppy in targeting, human error, weapons malfunction or something else. As you probably don’t notice, because in times of war Americans always stop in their tracks and suddenly give complete credibility to the media they have heretofore branded as fake news and consume with a ferocious appetite all media propaganda.
For example, Russia fires 20 missiles at a target and the U.S. media shows you 2 that hit a civilian building and show you none of the military targets that were destroyed by the other 18.
The media shows in fact non stop coverage over and over again of the same buildings bombed in such repetition as to make the viewers think that all the Russian army is attacking is civilians.
In contrast, the media coverage throughout the Iraq war was non stop of the bombing of militants/insurgents positions, and nothing of the bombed out civilians, with crying babies and crying parents.
You saw very little of the 60 million displaced and refugee persons that fled the countries that the U.S. and it’s coalition partners were bombing.
In Ukraine it’s non stop coverage of the plight of the refugees there with daily totals up on your screen as they increase…
Constant accolades for Ukraine’s comedian/actor president who is now wearing military colored clothing unshaven, his act for dramatic effect while in any interview, his cabinet members are wearing suits and clean shaven…
The wests propaganda war is as hot as Russia’s….
Americans have also forgotten all about the leaked (actually released by Russia) to YouTube of undersecretary defense at the time Victoria Nuland in a conversation with our Ukrainian ambassador plotting the demise of the democratically elected government and replacing it with a pro West government, BEFORE it happened. Americas response, “this marks a low point in Russian tradecraft”……
Really!!! NO, it marks the ongoing of American statecraft in which we interfere in the affairs of other countries for our advantage…
So let’s stop the bullshit. All countries engage in statecraft, not just America’s “enemies”……
And remember “fake news”
And why is the press engaged in the propaganda war, because Americans can’t handle the truth, because in the Middle East it was America and our coalition partners killing civilians in Muslim countries with brown people.
Here, it’s Russia killing civilians in a Christian country, white people…….
Why discuss hypotheticals when reality is unfolding in front of us.
Ukraine is not a NATO country and Russia’s military agenda is to prevent that eventuality to defend its national security interest.
Again, they tried the peaceful way during their 5 year courtship with Ukraine, the very same time that the US was courting them, both countries attempting to pull Ukraine into economic and political alliance, both with their own interests in mind. In the end, Ukraine believed they would be better benefitted if they aligned with Russia, and signed treaty agreements with them. This was unacceptable to the US and that’s when our statecraft kicked in. a tiny piece of it captured and released by the Russians. We instigated and supported the coup that took place that drove the duly elected Ukrainian government out, you likely don’t recall, but the presidents motorcade narrowly escaped under fire.
THAT is what has led us to todays events…you know this, Americans know this as what I’m posting is undisputed fact. It’s just that Americans can’t handle the truth.
Putin hasn’t attacked America, why should you even be talking about confronting him.
Saddam Hussein didn’t attack America, he invaded Kuwait to defend his countries economic interests. Kuwait was slant drilling for oil under Iraq. He asked the US what our response would be to him defending his countries national security, because we do live in a world where most countries have to ask for US permission to do such things. April Galespie (our ambassador to Iraq) told him she’d check with Washington and get back to him and she did. Washington’s response was that it was not America’s issue….
Of course you know what happened, papa Bush destroyed Saddam’s army making an easy victory for his son a decade later….
Please source this figure as you use it quite often.
He can’t! He never does that is why everyone here thinks he is a clown! Hence the name “Montecrusty” All hes got is crusted words with nothing ever to substantiate them.
Since the invasion, Iraq Body Count has recorded between 185,000 and 209,000 civilian deaths as a result of violence. The number grows to 288,000 when combatants are included.
https://www.iraqbodycount.org/database/
As a matter of fact, we did a better job killing civilians than we did “enemy combatants” which were simply Iraqis willing to fight back against our I’ll fated invasion to begin with……
There’s other groups that put the number as high as 650,000 Casualties of the Iraq War - Wikipedia
And this is just Iraq. There’s Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, etc., etc……
And the west is already talking about war crimes for Russia while the civilian death toll is in the hundreds……
The crusty can’t meme! Ha ha ha ha ha!
I shouldn’t be surprised that you wouldn’t understand the difference… and I’m not.
You weren’t there, yet you pretend to be a subject matter expert on the Iraq war! Welcome to the clown show of Montecrusty!
All done, and Russia is NOT in check……
There is no countering Putin. First, there certainly is no “legal” means as Ukraine isn’t a NATO member as everyone well knows, so why you’re invoking NATO is a mystery. Russia has not attacked the US, so there’s no legitimacy for a U.S. response on that level. And then of course there’s the issue of Putin’s not at all veiled threat to respond to any country that interferes with nuclear weapons, which they have the most of, and then there’s their ally’s, North Korea, China and Iran all nuclear powers with NK just now testing another ICBM….
This is not a tenable situation for any president, and right now, all western heads of state are in a huddle trying to figure out what to do.
I say nothing. Russia has a legitimate national security interest in keeping Ukraine either neutral or in their control. They tried the neutral route and the Obama administration destroyed that with their coup in 2014.
So…………leave Putin alone, tell Ukraine to STOP the resistance to the inevitable which will stop the killing and destruction immediately….
Just saw retired admiral James Stavridis speaking to the illegitimacy of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, pointing to his failure to “declare war on Ukraine”……
