The term “climate change” is a dirty one. The point of this posting regarding Rome is to illustrate how history in its uncanny incarnation has a habit of rhyming with the future. We see the same patterns today.
Yes, the devastating “climate change” for the Romans was the cooling.
Because of this inclement weather change, the Romans had to withdraw from Britain, their major money maker, into which they had invested heavily, making paved roads, building cities, military bases and mining centers, etc.
Additionally, Germanic tribes who experienced shortages of food themselves started to move south, invading the territories of the Roman Empire and causing havoc.
This pattern of global warming and global cooling is cyclical, occurring every 1000 years or so. The height of the warmth corresponds more or less to Roman expansion, and then cooling brought about their decline.
Then again, around 1000 AD, as Europe became warm, Vikings became powerful and numerous and started their expansion westward into Ireland and Great Britain, northwestward (Iceland, Greenland and possibly North America), east into Russia using such waterways as the Dnieper and Volga into the Black Sea and Caspian sea, laying the foundation of “Russia.”
As the earth cooled again, the Scandinavian settlers in Greenland had to abandon their villages and sailed back to Norway. This mini ice age saw the Thames in London freeze while markets were held on frozen IJselmeer in Amsterdam. In the Far East, there were famines in China, Japan and many other places.
Then again, toward the end of the 20th century, the earth warmed somewhat, but the level of warming was a far cry from the warming of the Roman and Viking periods.
The increase in icebergs in north Atlantic was claimed to be a sign of “warming” but it is the other way round. The cold weather and increase in snow on Greenland caused glaciers to grow and dump more chunks of ice into the Atlantic.
Funny that you are mentioning all of this because I just watched Dr Patrick Moore explain this on a POD-cast he was just on that I posted in the End Game Thread. Fascinating to hear him speak about how everything is really scam when it comes to this netzero and Green new Deal bullshit with Western countries right now. It is quite remarkable the times we are living in with this climate scam going on right now and the doubling of world populations and the threat to world resources. There is a correlation between ideologues like Klaus Schwab and others who believe in depopulating the Earth of humans and no coincidence that COVID shows up at a time when this is being advocated for.
I’m not sure where to post this. I find this man philosophical… of a sort. This was very good. If you are a believer you will find this, well… brilliant.
Very well said and excellent presentation to make a case for “God”
Control your MIND.
Control your LIFE.
Work on Mental Models:
- practice critical thinking
- strengthen your vision & leverage
- learn big ideas
- study big disciplines
Think differently.
I don’t know if I have the mystery part down.
You can’t give the game away when it hasn’t been played yet!
This seems like the best place to put this. Franz Kafka’s book “The Trial” eerily is similar to what our modern day judicial system is turning into with some of the Jan 6 prisoner and Trump indictment narratives.
If you haven’t read it I highly recommend it.
For a more humorous take on it check this one out. Dope!
This was pretty brilliant and funny at the same time. This story in many ways is a metaphor for todays circus.
Rochefoucauld was considered the ideal aristocrat for centuries
Left a lasting impact on Nietzsche
Wrote one-liners denser and more insightful than most books…
Discover his 10 best aphorisms on charisma, love, Thinkers v/s Doers, and more
1/ Charisma = being comfortable in your own skin
How to be irresistible:
“There is an air which belongs to the figure and talents of each individual. We should try to find out what air is natural to us and never abandon it, but make it as perfect as we can”
Authenticity is hot
2/ Lethargy and cowardice are vices that know how to look like virtues:
“We are held to our duty by laziness and timidity, but often our virtue gets all the credit”
Some people rebrand their inertia as consistency
Others rebrand their cowardice as a stoic control over emotions
3/ What does love need to survive?
Movement:
“Neither love nor fire can subsist without perpetual motion; both cease to live so soon as they cease to hope, or to fear”
Love is sustained by the fear of its loss, and the expectation of interesting tomorrows to be spent together
4/ Distance is the acid test for love
La Rochefoucauld:
“Absence diminishes small loves and increases great ones, as the wind blows out the candle and fans the bonfire.”
Time and distance only ever take away everything superfluous
While deepening everything real
5/ Sometimes, a lack of any serious flaw just means you’ve led a lukewarm, uneventful life: “Some people are so shallow and frivolous that they are as far removed from having any real faults as from having any solid virtues.”
6/ Self-constraint is only a virtue IF your unconstrained self is capable of causing DAMAGE:
“Nobody deserves to be praised for goodness unless he is strong enough to be bad, for any other goodness is usually merely inertia or lack of will-power.”
Only the monster is “nice”
7/ Not all the good things about you will be seen and appreciated
If a person fails to notice a certain virtue of yours, it may be because he lacks the “sense” for it:
“Certain good qualities are like the senses; those who lack them can neither appreciate nor understand them.”
8/ The one vice that gets more of a pass than it should?
Laziness:
“Of all our faults we think most leniently of laziness; we deceive ourselves into believing that…instead of destroying our other qualities, it merely suspends their functions”
Beware the quiet erosion of time
9/ The human brain is better at actually dealing with problems once they happen, than it is at predicting and avoiding them in the first place
La Rochefoucauld:
“Our minds are better employed in bearing the misfortunes that do befall us than is foreseeing those that may.”
10/ On Thinkers & Doers:
“Thinkers think & doers do. But until the thinkers do & the doers think, progress will be just another word”
As Thucydides put it: “The society that separates its scholars from its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards & its fighting by fools”
Spending time on social media and forums like these potentially mutes such warnings but erode our time by our mere indulgences they will!
Aren’t we living with that consequence as a reality now?
That was an old US Army 1 ton. Happy to see the Brits fighting back, they have been cucks for far too long!
Yes. The fighting fools is the woke tranny’s now serving. They will go into combat with high-heels and lipstick dressed as drag queens.
