Emanuel was White House Chief of Staff under Obama but got fired. He has been Ambassador to Japan since 2022.

Obama nominated Caroline Kennedy to be US Ambassador to Japan in 2013, the position she held until 2017. She is now Ambassador to Australia. Also an important ally of the US.
