Fly in that thing and spiraling downward to land was really weird.

That was actually comforting compared to a takeoff when it was fully loaded.

You should try flying into Ruidoso NM sometime. Itā€™s like diving into a volcano.

I had to pat myself on the back a bit tonight watching ā€œProject Bluebookā€.

I instantly recognized the forward fuselage of the wrecked bomber as being a mockup of the B-36.

One hell of a great plane that for a short time filled the gap between the B-29 and B-52.

It and the B-47 sat the Soviets back on their heels in terror.

We used to make a point of attending the airshows at Cannon and Reese every year to see them and the Thunder Birds.

Always amazing to watch.

With your love of old birds find a way to attend a show by the ā€œConfederate Air Forceā€ while they still have some of the greatest flying.

Yes I will do, whenever it is permissible to do so as you well know traveling these days is a sticky situation. The B-47 is a forgotten plane in my book, impressive!

It is amazing how quickly we produced a dozen of the most impressive bombers in history in such an impossibly short time.

Imagine that in five years we went from the B-17 to these aircraft and the supersonic B-58 Hustler.

All of these were ā€œcontinental bombersā€ like the Germans had dreamed of and never produced.

If I remember correctly, the old man called the little spotters L4 Pipers. Burma WW2. They flew treetop. Also gliders; and I guess they were the first stealth aircraft.

I heard that too! Took balls to fly those things and I canā€™t imagine what it was like before each mission what would be going through their minds! Lots of cigarettes smoked and a bit of insanity to have that kind of courage!

Story goes, and if it ainā€™t true, it oughta be; for a short runway take off, the Piper tail gear was roped to a tree, the engine revved up; and when the plane was bouncing, someone would cut the rope with an axe.

Pretty cool stuff. The Osprey is one that is a engineering marvel. And the pregnant Guppy? Didnā€™t know about that one. The X-15 is a legend and if I remember correctly Chuck Yeager flew one of them and crashed it. Also the SR-71 Blackbird, it was true about fuel leaking out due to its metals contracting when reaching certain temps. The pilots had to wear specialized pressured space suits to cope with the high altitudes and speeds they would fly. Also they hold the record from New York to London in 1hr 54 min.
