Saturday Morning Cinema: 100 Best Films of All Time (The Film Enthusiasts Thread) 📽

Not sure if I remembered that I did. Probably not because those titles don’t look familiar.

The most insane movie I have watched in recent times. Excellent review!

I saw that movie…that is what happens when you get cabin ever!

Here is another bizarre film which is excellent! Very unusual show when an American students gets hooked up with a crazy French brother and sister. The movies snowballs from one crazy scene to another. Script, visual effect and acting is excellent. Watch The Dreamers (2003) Full Movie Online Free - 123Movies

I have been watching 1960s Italian films mainly recently.

Last night I watched “Il bell’Antonio” with Marcello Mastroianni and Claudia Cardinale - as a straight woman I can even say that she was absolutely gorgeous, very possibly the two most gorgeous actresses have been Ava Gardner and Claudia Cardinale - so “Il bell’Antonio” was made in 1960 and the screenplay was co-written by Pier Paolo Pasolini, I like most of his films and can detach myself from the situation that he was a filthy Communist - the film was directed by Mauro Bolognini.

Here is the full film available with subtitles on YouTube.

Also I have never been a big James Bond fan except that “Goldfinger” is just a really great film. The other night I decided to watch “The Spy Who Loved Me” and also “Moonraker” both absolutely ridiculous in that in real life the plots would seem very far-fetched, but both great for entertainment value and I do have to say I prefer Roger Moore as James Bond to Sean Connery.

Again both films are available in full on YouTube.

Graves wrote a book on the Golden Ass.

Been waiting for this. I thought the Witch was excellent. To me it was like Bergman’s “The Virgin Spring”

“Virgin Spring” is definitely one of greatest films ever made.

So I will have to see this. I forgot about it.

Wow. The Virgin Spring (Bergman) is free on Youtube.

This is an incredible film. One of those movies where every scene can be analyzed to infinity. A bonified Masterpiece from 1960.

It can be seen over and over, to assimilate it.

I remember the reviews of this movie that came out the same year as Spartacus. One reviewer compared The Virgin Spring to Spartacus, which made me see it that year. I was surprised it didn’t remind me of Spartacus at all, except for how it captures a barbaric time in another slice of history.

Won Oscar for Best Foreign Film…I think.

I have never seen these so now I have something to watch. Thanks for the references.

BTW, I do recall “Cupid and Psyche” and “The Golden Ass” but as famous pairings in the prerafealites era. When I get a chance I will post them here.

He was an early, 2nd century, Roman Shakespeare and his real life, is blended into his writing. Bizarre humor, cosmic meanderings and metaphors on every page.

Look for the old volume with the complete works, rather then the more recent versions. The whole thing is fantastic.

The best version is a rare book and expensive, but I think there are paperbacks of the same text, that are available. I don’t care for the Robert Graves version, of The Golden Ass, although his analysis is good.

Cupid and Psyche is transcendent prose. His real life courtroom appearance is documented in Apologia and Defense of Magic Metamorphosis Is Amazing.

[Apuleius

This version is super. THIS would make the best movie/series. This archive pdf does not have all the other material

The golden ass : being the metamorphoses of Lucius Apuleius : Apuleius : The golden ass : being the metamorphoses of Lucius Apuleius : Apuleius : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive

Good, the film is definately in my Top 50 films of all time, I can’t do a Top 10 or a Top 20 the minimum is a Top 50!

“The Witch” is brilliant, I love Robert Eggers films

Have you seen “The Lighthouse” made in 2019? It’s amazing, Willem Dafoe is amazing in everything and Robert Pattinson is incredible in it also.

Here’s the original trailer:

Another great recent film again from 2019 and again from A24 is “Midsommar” Directed by Ari Aster, it would be a good companion piece to the original version of “The Wicker Man” - whoever decided to remake that film should be automatically taken out and shot.

Here’s the original trailer:

I just noticed you also recommend “The Lighthouse”, I am behind on reading the threads New Posts D’oh!

I’ve seen Midsommar. I was disappointed. I had seen videos of people saying how great it was. I expected a much better movie. Instead it had lifted elements from some previous horror films and pop Wiccan fantasy

I agree! I found that movie as being one of the most annoying ones I have seen in recent times.

I’m going to put this here. I had never heard of this until night before last.

It’s a very hard core 20+ hour emotional rollercoster----so they say.

I’ve seen bits and pieces of it. Pretty incredible graphics and hellish story.

How is this a film and not a video game?
