It was a great film all a round. Very hardcore.
Some where before I mentioned Ad Astraā¦the recent sci-fi with Tommy Lee Jones and Brad Pitt.
It kind of bombed with the critics. I loved it.
Here Tommy Lee Jones is interviewed
NOTE: if anyone wants to watch āIn the Electric Mistā be aware there is a 117 minute European version and Amazon prime has only the 102 minute version to stream or buy Bluray/dvd
So far I canāt find the uncut versionā¦maybe Ebay.
The uncut version can be found as a torrent on X1337
This was a French/USA production. It never was in our theaters, but a hit in Europe.
Makes me wonder Why? and why cut out 15 min making the movie harder to follow?
You found the 117Min version? I look at x1337 but saw no āuncutā designation Iāll look again.
You might need to change the laguage to english
I think you can if it isnāt dubbed! I use VLC player to disable subtitles. I remember when they chopped up Once Upon a Time in America it made no sense and itās probably why it didnāt do so well at the theatres
I was thinking about Dr. Strangelove and Terry Southern and my thoughts veered to his book āCandyā
When working on re-writes for Dr. Strangelove, he had been talking to Kubrick about doing Candy as a film.
Kubrick was open to it but had so much on his plate and was still smarting from criticism of doing Lolita.
Then in 1968 a film by Christian Marquand came out. A very flawed film but still had itās moments.
The novel was originally published as a ādirty bookā in 1958. it developed some word of mouth and I read it that year. It was a ādirty bookā. but a wacky satire and as it goes on, it turns into a deep, cosrmic joke, which I think, very few would understand.
The movie budget must have gone to the famous cast, because it technically has a low budget, cheap look.
There are a couple āfull movieā you tube versions that are pretty unwatchable. one is squeezed and one is edited to prevent copyright problems, so it has a horrible halo.
If one has not read the book . I wouldnāt want to give any spoilers. The ending in the movie tmakes it clear, the filmmakers didnāt quite get the ending.
The movie is worth watching as a farcical comedy, but it obscures the more profound subtext and the serious attacks on pedophiles, interpreted on the surface as being inappropriate.
I did find the book online and recommend it in the context of films related to Terry Southern, actors, Marlon Brando, Richard Burton, James Coburn, John Huston.and Ringo among many others and the star playing Candy,. the unknown Ewa Aulin and itās deeper meanings. It also features a famous song, Child of the Universe by The Byrds
Hereās the bookānot a downloadāI will search more for a decent copy of the film to share.
A few copies on youtube I found, had removed major portions of the soundtrack Even at the end, there was one video that had an unknow music over the last 15 minutes of the film. A viewer would see the actors mouth moving. Some people might think it was supposed to be like that. The ending of Candy, the book is brilliant. The ending of the movie is almost brilliant but has an annoying deviation from the book, but most viewers wouldnāt know what it meant.
Son of Terry Southern wrote a book which I havenāt read called āThe Candy Menā --the story of how the book was writtenā¦I canāt find it yet.
Here are a few moreā¦maybe I have duplicate-

One of the greatest masterpieces in film. Because they re-released it in theaters every few years, I saw it with my mom and dad originally and later I would see it on the big screen whenever it came out again.
4 Months,3 weeks and 2 days Check out that movieā¦I think free on youtube
Iāll look at it. I think I never heard of itā¦
It won many international awards
I just watched it. Very good movie. A 10. The director, performances, and Cinematography is excellent. Writing also is excellent. I donāt want to discuss the subject matter because it would be a spoiler. I hate spoilers on movies that really need to be seen cold, like this one.
I will only say, It depicts a very bleek time in 1987 Communist Romania and also shows how disconnects in any society leads to very stupid realities and generational, communication breakdowns. I would recommend for people not to read any spoilers beforehand. This one will be unforgettable
A great movie very taut and engrossing. Brings up many solvable issues.
FULL MOVIE
I am going to look and see if this director has other great movies. I see he is apparently a TV series director nowā¦
It makes me really curious to know more about the Revolution in 1989 and how they kicked out communism. Maybe there are movies about that. Interesting country.
The director has a 2016 film called āGraduationā that looks excellent. He has others that look good.
I think it received the Academy Award.
I had to rent āGraduationā on Amazon for $3.99. The director/writer is someone to follow. The 4months, Three weeks made a lot of money, about 20 times itās budget.
The Graduation is a story of family at a very stressful time in a stress filled country. Itās another minimalist, complex drama.
Check out Ice stormā¦really another great show.
