WASHINGTON—After passage of a bill to block President Trump’s use of a national emergency declaration to pay for a border wall, members of the House of Representatives voiced concerns Thursday about executive overreach, arguing that only Congress is allowed to misappropriate federal funds. “Throwing away millions of taxpayer dollars on vanity projects is Congress’s job, not the president’s,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi following the 245-to-182 vote to overturn Trump’s declaration, explaining that Article I of the Constitution clearly invests the legislative branch with the sole authority to mismanage public money. “Abusing the power of the purse is expressly reserved to the House and Senate. So it’s not up to the president to decide when we funnel money from one place to another, diverting it from its intended purpose. Burning through cash—whether we’re inflating the military budget or showering millions in unnecessary spending on our home districts—is an exclusively congressional task.” Pelosi concluded her remarks by praising the Founding Fathers for making the House, which is more directly representative of the people, the place where all bills for flushing money directly down the drain must originate.
Ha! Funny use of wording! I like it and should be repeated with emphasis and sent to every member of congress just to show how disdainful we feel about their blatant hypocrisy!
Now its the Senate’s turn! Lets see how this plays out, because this is not over by a country mile!
The democrats oppose it because Trump and his base want it.
Thy can send 10 billion to Central American countries who empty their poor from their cities and Mexico yet refs to address the issue of asylum and illegals immigration as well as addressing the issue of illegals in the US today.
Just ONE hospital in Texas , over 5,000,000 illegal babies born in the USA and close to 25,000,000 illegal adults in the USA , illegals are approaching 10% of the USA population .
A recent patient survey indicated that 70 percent of the women who gave birth at Parkland in the first three months of 2006 were illegal immigrants.’ Crikey, that’s 11,200 anchor babies born every year just in Dallas. According to the article, the hospital spent $70.7 million delivering 15,938 babies in 2004 but managed to end up with almost $8 million dollars in surplus funding. Medicaid kicked in $34.5 million, Dallas County taxpayers kicked in $31.3 million and the feds tossed in another $9.5 million.
We should just go ahead and do away with the military at this point. What do we have one for, if we can be invaded and taken over without a shot being fired by the simple expedient of illegal border crossing?
The military isn’t the problem, it’s congress and their failure to address the broken asylum laws, their refusal to fund border security as well as hiring enough judges to deport people in a timely manor, Their refusal to address the flood of people entering the US because of backlogs in our deportation system, etc.
I didn’t say it was the fault of the military, I asked what is the point of having one if we can be over-run by foreigners without ever a shot being fired?
That is exactly the point! Saul Alynsky’s “Rules for Radicals” is being implemented by the left near to perfection, and money talks bullshit walks in terms of our political class priorities. There are solutions to addressing this problem, but because American’s particularly the ones who talk a good game behind computers refuse to get out of their comfort zone to fight for it.
