House passes landmark Build Back Better legislation…

It’s a pity that Republican animus comes at the expense of America and it’s diminishing infrastructure……

BBB will be passed despite America’s haters, but is only a beginning as the ASCE says 4 trillion dollars is needed to put us back in the number one spot….

No one is opposing infrastructure spending. They are opposing all the other bulls**t that is along for the ride.

Addendum to the op. NO bill comes out of congress, regardless of which party it originated, without pork. The negotiations period in the various committees is where the tug of war occurs as Republicans fight to keep their pork and eliminate the opposing parties pork and vis versa. Out of the process comes a compromise bill in which both parties get some of their pork……

It is what it is and for those that insist that a bill has no pork unfortunately, they would see nothing ever passed….

But the only bitching I see at PB for years on the subject is over Democratic Party pork in bills. So one more time, Republicans don’t care if there’s pork as long as they like the pork…

I never saw posts or threads here criticizing the pork in any of the bills of Republican origin signed into law by Trump that were full of pork…

The budget reconciliation package pushed by Democrats creates a new expanded child tax credit (CTC) that would pay illegal immigrants some $10.5 billion next year. All immigrants with children are eligible, regardless of how they got here and whether their children are U.S.-born.

This includes the roughly 600,000 unaccompanied minors and persons in family units stopped at the border in FY2021 and released into the country pending a hearing. Cash welfare to illegal immigrants is not just costly; it also encourages more illegal immigration.

Keep cheering it on.

I understand pork- this is about a lot of other stuff snuck in- among the items is vastly increasing the size of the IRS- supposedly to go after tax cheats.
There will be pressure to raise the revenues touted by the Dems. and this will result in agents going after the law abiding just like the cheats - any detail to put the squeeze on people. Given the Lois Lerner history, we can expect such abuse will primarily go in one direction.

The Brookings Institute has done a fine job of chronicling the perennial problem of tax evasion and the nearly one trillion dollars a year that is lost……

It’s not corrupt for the IRS to aggressively pursue those who engage it and it’s something that is and has been done year in and year out through both Democratic and Republican administrations as it’s not a partisan issue….

The problem is that the IRS lacks the resources to do so fully and this is why increasing their resources is part of the bipartisan infrastructure bill……

The standard measure of tax evasion is the “tax gap.” The tax gap is the amount of taxes that are owed but are not paid in a timely or voluntary manner. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) collects information on the size and composition of the tax gap by conducting periodic studies that draw on a number of sources.

They don’t have a clue and are guessing.

A CBO report released Thursday estimates that Mr. Biden’s plan to hire more than 87,000 IRS agents will generate $207 billion in new revenue over a decade. The figure is nearly half of the $400 billion that the White House claimed would be raised.

As it turns out maybe they need to hire 160K agents to find 400 billion in 10 years.
